THURSDAY RUNDOWN: THE ICONIC DAVE HODGE!
Thursday’s Episode #354 of The RP Show was a huge thrill in a lot of ways! Here’s the rundown:
- Rod and Dupes kicked it off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) RP thoroughly enjoyed watching Wednesday night’s doubleheader in The Spring League at the request of Alphas Assistant Coach Drew Tate, 2) Thursday Night Football features the Packers at 49ers with patchwork lineups, 3) There WILL be a WJHC this Holiday Season (RP guaranteed it saying it’s Canada’s equivalent of U.S. College Football), 4) Vladdy loses 32 lbs (can you believe it’s headline news?), 5) What should the Dallas Cowboys do at quarterback for the rest of the season?, and 6) The CFL SIM division semifinals go Saturday with a doubleheader at 5 pm ET featuring the Argonauts at RedBlacks followed by the Lions at Roughriders.
- A bonus point was the start of the regular seasons for the SJHL and PJHL this week and how the teams will make a go of it with 150 and 100 spectator caps. RP figures they simply have no choice but to make it work.
- Comedian and broadcaster Kelly Taylor joined the show from Prince Albert to talk about pandemic life as a stand-up comic, and trying to scratch out a living. Taylor talked about the resurgence of his beloved Raiders under Marc Habscheid and Curtis Hunt, the immediate future of junior hockey, and told hockey stories from World Juniors past that he’s attended. (Kelly figures last year’s tournament in Sweden will never be topped). Taylor also promoted his upcoming shows and how fans can follow on his social media channels.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Will there be a WJHC this Holiday Season? Over 80% of respondents said yes.
- Hour 2 was broadcast on Game+ TV and simulcast on Facebook Live and we were joined by famed TSN and CBC broadcaster Dave Hodge from Toronto. Now in retirement in Toronto, Dave professed his love for the CFL and admitted the league may have made the correct decision by cancelling the 2020 season. When it comes back, Hodge feels the game needs to be tweaked by the elimination of the rouge, field size and more. RP countered that the CFL on-field product is fine but suffers from perception and feels TSN is a big part of that by not discussing the CFL more on Hodge’s former show The Reporters. Dave said he makes no apologies for that, and revealed that they were catering to their Eastern Canada audience. Dave also talked about his controversial Twitter account and said he doesn’t apologize for that either, and won’t “stick to sports”.
- Hodge won the Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions by acclimation. Wednesday’s winner was the NLL’s Devan Kaney.
