Thursday’s show was Episode #96 of The Rod Pedersen Show. Here are the highlights!

  • Rod and Dupes were joined for The Warmup by Great Western Brewery Director of Sales Scott Henbury who came in to talk sports and drop off jerseys from the Saskatoon Blades and Saskatchewan Rush for the bunker! The guys talked about the Leafs’ home loss to Washington on Thursday, and the Oilers’ home win over Philadelphia. They also discussed GW’s partnerships with all 5 Saskatchewan-based WHL teams and several SJHL clubs.
  • The Silver Fox Kelly Remple joined the bunker in Segment 2 to talk about the Riders/Lions clash on Friday Night Football, and discussed the absence of DT Micah Johnson from the Rider roster for the game. That set up the daily poll question of which is Canada’s Game of the Week in the CFL? The whopping winner with over 83% of the vote was Saturday’s Bombers/Stampeders clash in Calgary, and the reasons why. Clearly CFL fans feel that game has much intrigue with a lot of West Division standings ramifications.
  • The guys then delved into the Battle of Alberta, the Sask/Winnipeg rivalry and the sports landscape across the prairies. Viewers from all over the country chimed in with questions of why these love/hate relationships are so heated.
  • Kirk Muyres of Saskatchewan’s Muyres curling team dropped in for an update on the Slam season and Kirk talked about being stranded at a bonspiel in Portage, MB during last week’s storm. Kirk also broke the news that he’ll be filling in for Kevin Koe on Team Koe at this weekend’s event in North Bay, ON. That spawned some chirping from viewer Ben Hebert of Team Koe and Rod joked that Ben’s the first guy to troll a member of his OWN team!
  • The guys got into a deeper CFL discussion in Hour 2 and TSN 1050 Toronto/CFL.ca’s Matt Cauz joined the show to discuss the hiring of Pinball Clemons as GM of the Argos, and what the top storylines are for the remaining 3 weeks of the regular season. Matt feels all the intrigue is in the West Division the rest of the way.
  • The weekly Sask Snow Beef WHL Prospect Feature was on Bowen Byram of the Vancouver Giants, the 4th overall pick of the 2019 NHL Draft by the Colorado Avalanche.
  • The Voice of the Brandon Wheat Kings Branden Crowe joined the show from the Sho-Ware Centre in Kent, WA as the Wheaties are on their West Coast road trip. He discussed Brandon’s 3-2 loss in Everett Wednesday evening, the Dave Lowry Factor in Brandon, and the many deep connections between the Wheat Kings and Vegas Golden Knights. He said Brandon is a full-on Golden Knights town, far more than the Winnipeg Jets.
  • In honour of show #96 the guys recognized sports figures who’ve worn number-96 and the group includes Scott Schultz, Tomas Holmstrom, Pavel Bure, Mikko Rantanen and Cortez Kennedy.
