We covered a wide array of sports topics on Thursday’s Episode 181 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstores in which they covered these show topics: 1) Tiebreaker day at the Scotties, 2) Kelowna Rockets firing coach Adam Foote, 3) NFL going to 17 games?, 4) CFL asking for public funding for TD Atlantic, 5) Oilers/Canucks lose in extra time, 6) Jets at Ottawa Thursday night, 7) Alouettes receiver Quan Bray arrested in Texas, and 7) The future of Chris Jones.
  • The first guest was TSN Calgary’s Jermain Franklin who joined via video chat prior to Flames practice. He talked about the Flames’ wants and needs leading up to the trade deadline, the future of Johnny Gaudreau who doesn’t seem the same this year, and the defection of Stamps OL Derek Dennis to the XFL. Jermain feels The Bonecrusher is an excellent lineman and did not fall out of favour in Calgary. He simply feels this is the best opportunity for him.
  • CBC’s Devin Heroux joined the show live from Mosaic Place, where Saskatchewan’s Robyn Silvernagle had just won the morning tiebreaker. Devin discussed the anxiety in the building as the game went to extra ends, and how well the Scotties has gone over in Moose Jaw. He talked about growing up in Saskatchewan as a Rider fan, and the current love affair he enjoys with curling and its fans coast-to-coast.
  • Sportsnet 650 Vancouver’s Andrew Walker was next up, discussing the plight of the Vancouver Canucks who are fighting for positioning in the tough Pacific Division. “Walks” – a proud Saskie – said Canucks fans are having a tough time handling success after years of baggage. He plunged into how hard it is to break a culture of losing – citing the Oilers and Canucks.
  • Estevan Bruins GM/Head Coach Chris Lewgood joined the show from his club’s road trip through Northern Saskatchewan. He talked about the Bruins having the SJHL’s second-best record since January 1 and how hosting the 2022 Centennial Cup has affected how they do business. “It affects everything we do,” Lewgood said. The Bruins annual fundraising dinner is a Medieval Feast next Thursday and you can get tickets at the Bruins office.
