Thursday’s show was Episode #44 of The Rod Pedersen Show. Here are the highlights!

  • Rod and Dupes were joined by The Silver Fox Kelly Remple in the bunker for The Warmup. They teed up the CFL’s Thursday Night Football doubleheader between the Blue Bombers/Argonauts and Ticats/Roughriders.
  • As always, they covered the day’s hot sports topics including the Blue Jays fire sale ahead of the MLB Trade Deadline. While Darren and Kelly gave the Jays’ moves the thumbs-down, Rod said Mark Shapiro and Ross Atkens should be lauded for drafting and grooming young stars Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette and Cavan Biggio. It’s made him interested in the Jays again.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Are you confident in the direction of the Blue Jays? 77% of respondents said no.
  • Ticats broadcaster and CEBL Commissioner Mike Morreale joined the bunker along with RP Show Director of Scouting Craig Smith. Morreale said there has been tons of Grey Cup talk in The Hammer but the season-ending injury to QB Jeremiah Masoli has tempered that chatter considerably. The panel discussed every current topic in the CFL heading into Week 8.
  • Morreale discussed the inaugural season of the CEBL and will be in attendance at Friday’s Saskatchewan Rattlers/Fraser Valley Bandits game at SaskTel Centre. He also explained and promoted the CEBL Championship Weekend in Saskatoon August 22-25. It has a Memorial Cup format.
  • Former Rider and Eskimo DT Eddie Steele joined the show from Edmonton via video chat. He said the strength of the 4-2 Eskimos is their D-line and that GM Brock Sunderland has done an outstanding job in rebuilding that program. He also predicted the “1990 drought” won’t end for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers this year.
  • NHL and Regina Pats great Stu Grimson joined the show from Nashville for a Predators update. He talked about the tragic loss of former Pred Greg Johnson. He also analyzed the PK Subban trade on Draft weekend, and how it’s hampered Nashville. “The Grim Reaper” feels Subban is a Top 4 defenceman in the NHL but understands why the move was made (salary cap implications). Stu also promoted his upcoming book, and said he’ll be in Regina for a speaking event this fall.
  • In honour of show #44, the crew recognized famous all-time sports figures who wore #44. Rod said there is only one #44, and that’s Roger Aldag. However the guests and viewers pointed out Chris Pronger, Pete Rose, Reggie Jackson, Hank Aaron, Rhett Warrener, Jim Brown, Adam Bighill and Sheldon Souray.
  • Gamers Dylan Edgar and Carter Asselford joined the bunker to discuss the huge gaming competition at Buffalo Days this week at the International Trade Centre.
  • Today’s show is available for viewing now on our Facebook page and the podcast is available on this website by clicking on the PODCAST tab.
  • Friday’s show will be another beauty as the guest line-up includes Rider greats Reggie Hunt and Maurice Lloyd as well as famed Rider reporters/broadcasters Don Hewitt and John Lynch.
