THURSDAY SHOW RECAP: A HOCKEY DAY!
We got out the nets for Thursday’s Episode 167 of The Rod Pedersen Sh0w. Here are the highlights!
- Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstore, covering these topics: 1) The Battle of Alberta, 2) Super Bowl LIV, 3) Tom Brady’s Future, 4) The Kobe ceremony at Staples Center, 5) Bo Levi’s rings being stolen and 6) Rod’s evening with Clint Malarchuk on Wednesday. The former All Star NHL goalie told Rod prior to his presentation at the More Joy Regina event that 30 years later, he’s still having nightmares over the skate-throat slash he suffered with the Buffalo Sabres in 1989.
- Former Pats player/coach & current colour commentator Al Dumba joined the bunker in Segment 2 to chat all things hockey. They covered Calgary’s 4-3 SO win at Edmonton on Wednesday night and Rod said Matthew Tkachuk was the winner of the night, fighting Matt Kassian and having his team win. Rod said Tkachuk didn’t have to fight, but he admires the fact that he did and answered the bell.
- Arizona Coyotes Skills Coach Jeff Ulmer joined the show from Gila River Arena in advance of Thursday’s Coyotes/Kings game. The Wilcox, SK product talked about the excitement in The Valley around the Coyotes season, including the acquisition of Phil Kessel. Jeff discussed his role as Skills Coach, and the duties it entails.
- Oilers/Islanders/Canucks/Blazers alum Jason Strudwick joined the show from Edmonton to discuss Wednesday’s game. He said he rarely is jealous of today’s NHL players but on this night, he was as they got to play in the biggest regular season game of the year. He said it was a thrill, and Saturday’s return engagement at the Saddledome on Hockey Night In Canada should be the highest-rated game of the season. Struds took questions from viewers about the state of the Oilers, and said he’s very confident the team is headed in the right direction. He trolled Al Dumba by saying Pats/Kamloops games when the pair was involved were his favourite, as he was able to rack up points! Jason is a Rider fan and he said he’s very excited for the 2020 season, and the progression of Cody Fajardo. Strudwick said he’d like to be in Mosaic Stadium for the 2020 Grey Cup.
- Former Pats captain and L.A. Kings 1st-rounder Colten Teubert joined the show from the West Coast where he’s coaching Bellingham in the WSHL. “Teuby” talked about his transition from player-to-coach, his role with his club as Head Coach & GM, and much more.
- A viewer asked Rod’s opinion of the NFL-to-Toronto comments by Commissioner Roger Goodell at Super Bowl. Rod said this discussion is the absolute worst thing for the CFL, and the panel agreed that it’ll likely never happen.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who will have the longer NHL season: The Flames or Oilers? Over 60% of respondents said Calgary.
