THURSDAY SHOW RECAP: A HOCKEY DAY!

LOU

CFL chatter inevitably came up, but Thursday’s Episode #242 was dedicated to the ice! Check out the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes covered it all in The Rollout for Flooring Superstore with these Quick Six show topics: 1) CFL facilities may be partially opening, but training camps are NOT set to resume, 2) Stanley Cup odds – Boston, Tampa and Vegas open as 6-1 favourites. Montreal is the longest shot at 1000/1, 3) How will winning this Stanley Cup be different than all the rest?, 4) The NHL Draft formula is incredibly confusing to Rod, 5) Are MLB players being unreasonable by refusing a paycut?, and 6) The WCBL cancels its 2020 season.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Is MLB players’ refusal to take a paycut damaging your love of baseball? A little over 50% of respondents said yes.
  • On the MLB topic, Rod surmised that the spat between owners and players underscores a distinct lack of trust. For that reason, Major League Baseball is broken. It was also discovered that Rod’s favourite player, homerun leader Dong Min Han, “The Big Donger” of Korean Baseball’s Wyverns is out 6-8 weeks with a broken right tibia. Rod quipped, “2020 strikes again!”
  • RP Show panelist Derek “Duke” Meyers joined the show from his home office. As a Sask Party candidate, Duke outlined the political ramifications of Federal funding for the CFL, and all other sports leagues. He also said that Oiler fans have no right to be upset over the playoff format and wondered where their sense of entitlement came from?
  • Calgary Flames broadcaster Peter Loubardias was next up, and analyzed the Flames/Jets first round match-up. Regarding a Stanley Cup favourite, “Lou” predicted that it’ll simply come down to the team who wants it the most, as always. The conversation veered off into another Lou’s Life Tip, saying you always want to empty the tank and have no regrets once the war is over (in hockey and life).
  • Rod predicted a Winnipeg Jets series victory, giving them the edge in forwards, goaltending and coaching, and the Flames the edge on the blue line.
  • TSN Vancouver Radio’s Rick Dhaliwal joined the show to discuss the Canucks/Wild match-up and why Vancouver is so heavily-favoured by many. He mentioned that the Wild made an in-season coaching change which has thrown some people off, but only one point separated Vancouver and Minnesota in the standings. Rick then brushed on the CFL and the great Canadian institution that it is. However he stated that the revolving door of players from year-to-year hurts a franchise’s ability to build a core, and for fans to identify with the team.
  • Everett Silvertips goalie Dustin Wolf – the WHL’s Goaltender of the Year – joined the show from his home in Gilroy, CA and discussed his road from Northern California to being a top Calgary Flames prospect. Wolf explained why he chose the CHL over the NAHL, what he learned from former Tips goalie Carter Hart, said he hasn’t heard from the Flames about a call-up for the playoffs, and gave Netflix suggestions! (He promoted the show Outer Banks).
  • You can vote now on our Twitter poll for the Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions. At press time, Peter Loubardias was way out in front. Wednesday’s winner was Warren Moon.
