Thursday’s show was Episode #82 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes kicked the show off with The Warmup in which they discussed the morning’s hottest sports topics. They covered the latest in the Auston Matthews investigation, CFL items such as Johnathan Hefney’s 9-year prison term, Paul Lapolice taking partial blame for the Montreal Meltdown, and who should sit for Jordan Williams-Lambert for the Riders this week: Manny Arceneaux or Naaman Roosevelt? Rod said he’d be shocked if it was Roosevelt as the odd man out.
  • The Silver Fox Kelly Remple joined the bunker in Segment 2 for further discussion on these issues.
  • NHL Insider Rich Sutter of the Columbus Blue Jackets joined the show via video chat from his Vancouver hotel room to talk about the Lucic/Neal trade and if anything’s been decided so far in the preseason, the salary cap room the Blue Jackets enjoy after the departure of Artemi Panarin, and the WHL’s top teams.
  • The show introduced the weekly Sask Snow Beef WHL Prospect Profile and the first player spotlighted is Daemon Hunt of the Moose Jaw Warriors.
  • Warriors GM Alan Millar joined the show from his office at Mosaic Place to talk about Moose Jaw’s season-opening split with the Regina Pats, the outlook for the 2019-20 Warriors and the status of forward Braden Tracey who’s still up with the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks. Millar also threw a barb at Dupont for being such a Saskatoon Blades fan.
  • RP Show Director of Scouting Craig Smith joined the bunker for Hour 2 to talk about Week 16 games in the CFL and a whole lot more. They went deep on the Hamilton/Winnipeg, Saskatchewan/Toronto match-ups. Regarding the struggles of Argos coach Corey Chamblin, Smitty said it’s nearly impossible to win in the CFL without a marquee QB.
  • A special treat was former Rider GM Brendan Taman who joined the show from his home in BC. “BT” talked about the pressure he faced as GM of the 2013 Roughriders, as Regina was set to host the Grey Cup that year. Taman said the pressure was always there, but he was regularly reminded of it by then-Rider President Jim Hopson! Brendan said the creative way they went about the salary cap that season has been referred to as a Ponzi Scheme, and he explained why.
  • Taman also explained how they navigated the “Dewdney Incident” that season, and managed the antics of star running back Kory Sheets. This was a must-see interview!
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which is Canada’s Game of the Week in the CFL? The clearcut winner was Ticats/Bombers.
  • In honour of show #82, the guys debated sports figures who wore number-82 in their careers. The list includes Jason Clermont, Naaman Roosevelt, Jason Witten, Kyle Rudolph, Martin Straka and Donald Audette.
