Thursday’s Episode #162 of The Rod Pedersen Show covered a lot! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstores and that was just when the CFL officially announced details of the 2020 Touchdown Atlantic featuring the Saskatchewan Roughriders at the Toronto Argonauts in Halifax. Rod recalled last year’s TD Atlantic in Moncton between the Argos and Alouettes, and how this year’s event will look with the Riders providing the opposition.
  • CFL players have been Tweeting that they’d like to see a CFL All Star Game (specifically Derek Dennis and James Wilder Jr.) and the panel debated the merits of reviving the showcase event that hasn’t been staged since the early 1980’s. They listed the pros and cons of a CFL All Star Game and viewers chimed in with ideas of how to make it successful. That included the time of year, fan voting and location.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Should the CFL hold an All Star Game? The results were about 50/50. Rod said his biggest frustration with the topic is that fans would rather talk about why it wouldn’t work rather than why it would.
  • Sportsnet’s Colby Armstrong joined the show via video chat from his home in Pittsburgh, PA for a hockey chat. The Saskatoon product and Red Deer Rebels alum said the current All Star break isn’t coming at a good time for the hottest teams in the NHL, especially Florida and Vancouver. Colby is also part of Sportsnet’s CHL coverage for the Memorial Cup in Kelowna but said he isn’t following the WHL playoff race just yet.
  • Alberta viewers wanted to discuss the January 29 game between the Oilers and Flames in Edmonton and the anticipated fireworks between Zack Kassian and Brady Tkachuk. Rod predicted that there will be NO fireworks and said there never is in these scenarios.
  • Edmonton sportscaster Dean Millard was next up on the show and predicted that something will happen in the next instalment of the Battle of Alberta. He felt the NHL head office wouldn’t have warned both teams otherwise. In the visit, the guys discussed the Raptors’ popularity in Western Canada, NHL chat and the merits of a CFL All Star Game.
  • Sportsnet 650 Vancouver radio’s James Cybulski joined the show to discuss the CFL in Vancouver, the notion of a CFL All Star Game (he doesn’t think it would work) and the resurgence of the Pacific Division-leading Canucks.
  • We’ll reconvene on Friday for a Football Friday as John Frenzy joins the bunker as well as a bevy of CFL guests! See you at 10 am CT on Facebook Live and RodPedersen.com/ListenLive.

Here’s hoping Mathew Tkachuk checks heads down Big Cry Baby Zack Kassian through the boards and sends him all the way to Tim Buck Too never to return. Zack better have his baby soother hanging around his neck, he’ll definitely need it.
