Thursday was Episode #125 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes were joined by The Silver Fox Kelly Remple for The Rollout for Flooring Superstores. They teased CFL Coaching Carousel discussion but then quickly went into the news of they day: the Bill Peters Situation. Remps mentioned that he knows Peters from their days in the WHL and got along with him. Their discussion brought up the daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question of: Should the Calgary Flames fire Bill Peters? The narrow majority said yes, while the minority was made up of “no”, and “not sure”.
  • TSN NHL Insider Darren Dreger joined the show via video chat from Toronto and said, at that time, that no decision had been made on Peters’ future by the Flames. He admitted that it’s been a rough week for hockey given the Peters situation, and the fallout from the Mike Babcock firing in Toronto. Dregs and Remple shared quite a few chuckles about Darren MC’ing Peter Loubardias’s wedding, and their days broadcasting in the WHL. Rod also asked Dregs which teams are the pretenders and contenders as we’ve hit U.S. Thanksgiving and Darren said he’s becoming a real believer in the Washington Capitals.
  • Up next was Sportsnet’s Kelly Hrudey who joined the show from the Calgary Flames current road trip. He said it’s been a very tough week for the Flames but they put their best foot forward in Wednesday’s OT win at Buffalo. Kelly also said he’s a real supporter of Flames goalie David Rittich, and says he’s a quality NHL puckstopper. Rod asked Hrudey if he is ever asked for input on the Flames crease situation by the club? Kelly said he’ll offer it if asked, but generally no. He said he saves his most critical analysis for Hockey Night In Canada on Saturday nights.
  • Leader Post columnist Rob Vanstone joined the bunker and discussed his book signing in Saskatoon for his latest project 100 Things Every Rider Fan Should Know Before They Die on Wednesday evening and promoted Thursday night’s signing at Indigo/Chapters in Regina. They talked about the beginnings of the CFL off-season, the coaching carousel, and Riders OC Stephen McAdoo. RV doesn’t expect the Riders will make a change there.
  • The guys talked about the head coach openings in BC, Edmonton and Ottawa and stated that Bomber OC Paul Lapolice will be the pick of the litter. They felt that Lapolice will likely select the team with the most Grey Cup potential, and that’s the Eskimos. They also debated Ryan Dinwiddie’s chance at being hired in Ottawa, as he was to interview with the RedBlacks on Thursday.
  • Evraz Place President & CEO Tim Reid joined the bunker for an update on the Regina sports and entertainment “campus”. Tim said the 2020 Grey Cup will offer an environment never seen before in the CFL. Asked about a new hockey arena, Tim said the Brandt Centre is 42 years old and a decision will be made in the next year regarding whether they’ll pour massive renovations to the place, or make the move to construct a new multipurpose entertainment facility.
  • In honour of show #125 the guys recognized sports figures who’ve worn number-25 in the past and the group included Jeff Friesen, Mike Keane, Darnell Nurse, Dave Sapunjis, Kory Kocur, Jacques Lemaire, Carlos Delgado and Rhett Dawson.
