THURSDAY SHOW RECAP: IN THE PADDOCK
Thursday’s show was Episode #87 of The Rod Pedersen Show. Here are the highlights!
- Rod and Dupes opened the show with The Warmup, discussing opening night in the NHL, the CFL’s Week 17 games and the unfolding Simoni Lawrence situation. Rod addressed the social media storm that his comments from earlier in there week about Lawrence’s behaviour caused, and that he finds comments about being “lazy”, “ugly”, “cowardly”, etc. amusing. He explained that after what he’s been through in life, this is a piece of cake. He also thanked Ticats owner Bob Young for his take on the matter.
- A special treat was a visit by Regina Pats GM John Paddock – the former head coach of the Winnipeg Jets and Ottawa Senators – to the bunker. John explained his role as solely the Pats GM over the past few seasons, how the club sacrificed a bit of the future for the WHL championship and Memorial Cup runs, and offered his take on the latest goings-on in the NHL. He said the only time he misses coaching is at 7:00 pm on game nights. He also went deep on how coaching has evolved and that one of the goals of a junior hockey coach is to build good men more than NHL players, because only a select few go on to the next level. It was a fascinating visit.
- The Silver Fox Kelly Remple joined the bunker in Hour 2 for a deeper WHL discussion, and the panel also highlighted the WHL Prospect feature for Sask Snow Beef. This week’s featured player is Ozzy Weisblatt of the P.A. Raiders.
- The Voice of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats Marshall Ferguson of TSN 1150 Hamilton joined the show via video chat for an assessment of the 11-3 Ticats. He also offered his thoughts on the Rod/Simoni tiff, and said Rod’s take on Lawrence is “unfair”.
- In honour of show #87, the guys recognized players who’ve worn number-87 in their career and it includes Sidney Crosby, Donald Brashear, Rob Gronkowski, Jason French and Dwight Clark.
- The daily poll question for Capital Auto Mall/Univeral Collion Centre was: Which is Canada’s Game of the Week in the CFL? The runaway winner was Winnipeg/Saskatchewan on Saturday afternoon.
