THURSDAY SHOW RECAP: LEIGH STEINBERG JOINS!

SHOW ME THE MONEY! The original Jerry Maguire – sports super agent Leigh Steinberg – was among the guests on Episode #263 of The RP Show. Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstores covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Riders reveal a grim reality (they’re facing a $10M loss if there’s no 2020 season), 2) Henry Burris goes off on our original Twitter poll of who’s the Top QB of the 2010’s – Ricky Ray or Bo Levi Mitchell?, 3) The NFL Hall of Fame Game being cancelled, 4) Hockey Hall of Fame leftovers, 5) Vince Carter retires, and 6) The Week 3 CFL SIM opening money lines.
  • The guys came up with these point spreads: Saskatchewan at Hamilton (Tiger-Cats favoured by 4.5-points), Calgary at Winnipeg (Stampeders favoured by 2.5-points) and Edmonton at BC (Eskimos favoured by 2.5-points).
  • 3DownNation CFL Insider Justin Dunk joined the show for the latest in the CFL but admitted there isn’t much since his last appearance. He said Commissioner Randy Ambrosie is in a tight spot having to please a lot of parties, and said CFL players are feeling the pinch having not been paid since last November. JD also dropped some Canada West and NCAA tidbits.
  • Pittsburgh reporter Chuck Curti joined the show to discuss becoming a newbie on the CFL scene and that he’s being courted by several Canadian fanbases to join their tribe. He joked that he may stage a “Signing Day” to reveal his choice. Curti (pronounced KERR-TIE) explained his role in the Pittsburgh media over the past 20-some years, why he loves the CFL game and much more.
  • RP regaled the viewers with stories of all CFL markets and said game day in each centre is great. He touched on why BMO Field is underrated and explained why he admires the Winnipeg fanbase because they don’t disguise their hatred for the visitors.
  • In Hour 2 the guys were joined by NFL super agent Leigh Steinberg – the man which the movie Jerry Maguire was based on – and they covered a lot of topics. Leigh predicted the NFL will play in 2020, recapped NFL Draft weekend with his prized client Tua Tagovailoa (he also represents Patrick Mahomes), revealed the not-so-glamorous side of being an agent, and said it would be tragic if the CFL went down.
  • Red Deer Rebels in-arena host Joe Whitbread joined the program from Central Alberta to discuss pandemic life in that market, how the Rebels have always been run first class, and told stories of various Rebels stars who’ve come through the program.
  • The daily Capital Auto/Mall Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who is the CFL’s Top QB of the 2010’s – Henry Burris, Bo Levi Mitchell, Mike Reilly or Ricky Ray? At press time, Ricky Ray was leading.
  • You can vote now on our Twitter poll for the Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions. At press time, Leigh Steinberg was leading. Wednesday’s vote was won by Brett Kissel.
  • See you at 10 am MT Friday for Football Friday featuring Tori Gurley in studio, plus Blue Bombers great Doug Brown!
