THURSDAY SHOW RECAP: LIVE ON GAME+ TV!

Thursday was an historic day for The Rod Pedersen show. It was our first live broadcast on Game+ TV Network in over a million homes across Canada and the USA! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstores covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Will there be a CFL season? (Rod’s heard from CFL personnel who adamantly say YES and NO), 2) Where will a CFL Bubble City be? (There have been reports of Regina, Winnipeg, Edmonton and Hamilton), 3) The NFL plans to cut its preseason from four games down to two, 4) Will today be the day NHL Hub Cities are announced? 5) Which NHL Play-In Round team has the best chance to win the Stanley Cup? (Rod says Winnipeg while Dupes says Florida), and 6) MLB training camps are scheduled to open in the next couple days.
  • Let history show that the first-ever guest on The RP Show Game+ era is Hockey Hall of Famer Lanny McDonald. The moustachioed-one joined the show from Calgary and discussed his role as Chairman of the Hockey Hall of Fame. He recapped last week’s announcement of the 2020 Induction class and said there wasn’t a huge argument over who should’ve gotten in. While Lanny and Dave Babych are credited with having the best lip-dusters in NHL history, RP asked who’s #3? Lanny suggested Minnesota North Stars great Dennis Maruk. The guys discussed the Calgary/Winnipeg first round series and Lanny expressed his disappointment that RP would pick the Jets to win in four games.
  • Columbus Blue Jackets scout and 13-year NHL veteran Rich Sutter joined the show from Lethbridge and said he’s disappointed Columbus wasn’t chosen as a Hub City but he understands why. The Sportsnet Flames analyst figures the NHL will choose two Canadians centres because of Coronavirus cases in America, plus the fact Sportsnet is headquartered in Toronto.
  • The Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Given the latest news, do you think the CFL will play in 2020? Over 60% of respondents said no.
  • In Hour 2 the guys were joined by Saskatoon Blades broadcaster Les Lazaruk. He’s excited about the WHL’s Return To Play plans, but feels the targeted October 2 start date may be optimistic. Les also talked about the new multi-plex arena proposal for Prince Albert and feels this could be the first step to a new arena for the WHL’s Raiders.
  • RP Show hockey analyst Jared Dumba joined the bunker and predicts Montreal has the best chance of all Play-In Round teams to win the Stanley Cup. The guys recapped last weekend’s NHL Draft Lottery and how it blew up in the NHL’s face, and all the other latest hockey topics.
  • Near the end of the show Rod and Dupes previewed Thursday night’s CFL Sim broadcast of the BC Lions at Saskatchewan Roughriders on Facebook Live at 7 pm MT. The Lions are 0-3 while the Riders are 2-0.
