THURSDAY SHOW RECAP: NAVIGATING CORONAVIRUS!

TREVORHARRIS

We navigated our way through the latest in the Coronavirus mess on Episode 191 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstore with only two items on the Gruesome Twosome show topic list: 1) COVID-19 and sports, and 2) Bo Levi Mitchell calling Rod an “idiot”.
  • Hockey analyst Jared Dumba (10-year pro, Blades/Hounds alum) joined the bunker in Segment 2 and the guys wove their way through the Coronavirus mess, keeping viewers and listeners informed with breaking news. Rod made it clear that they are NOT CNN, CTV NewsNet, nor any other news outlet. The panelists are like everyone else, trying to stay on top of the latest as the NHL, MLB, MLS, NLL, MLB, etc. suspended their seasons. Sunday’s Juno Awards event in Saskatoon was also suspended during the show.
  • Regarding his longstanding spat with Calgary QB Bo Levi Mitchell, Rod laughed it off and said he’ll only be worried once people stop talking about him.
  • Edmonton Eskimos QB Trevor Harris joined the show fresh off a workout and discussed what the buzz is around the pandemic in the City of Champions, the outlook for the 2020 Eskimos (“You’re going to get the best season out of me,” Harris declared), and they took many questions and comments from viewers. Trevor said he’s happy that no one’s talking about the Eskimos, and he’s happy they’re perceived as underdogs.
  • Jesse Granger from The Athletic Las Vegas joined the show from Sin City to discuss how the COVID-19 outbreak could affect Vegas, the sustained 3-year hype around the Golden Knights, and the buzz around the NFL’s Raiders moving to Las Vegas. He also updated construction of Allegiant Stadium, home of the Raiders.
  • Washington Capitals TV colour commentator Alan May joined the show to give his team’s perspective on the Coronavirus, the playoff race involving the Capitals, Alex Ovechkin’s pursuit of Wayne Gretzky’s career goals record, and he also offered some advice to his former team, the Estevan Bruins, as they trail the Melfort Mustangs 3-1 in their first round SJHL series. He feels the Bruins will need to change up their game plan.
  • News broke during the show of the CFL cancelling its Regional and National Combines, and how the outbreak could affect the CFL season.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Are you worried you could contract the Coronavirus? Close to 70% of respondents said no.
  • Thursday’s show is available for viewing now on our Facebook page, you can listen to the podcast by clicking on the PODCAST tab, or you can listen live anytime on our 24-hour streaming feed, presented by SUDS Regina, at RodPedersen.com/ListenLive.

Don’t think you & Bo will ever be best buddies but you never know. I think both the Eskimos & Lions will be better this year. They both have veteran HC’s now who’ve won Cups. Milanovich & Thorpe are excellent co-ordinators & I have commented on this before. It starts in the trenches & I don’t like the Rider trenches at all because of age & lack of depth. There is still time before the season to change things but the other teams in the West all seem to have better depth & personnel than we do in that area.… Read more »

We have so called leader of a country (Justin Trudeau) in hiding somewhere (he needs to man up, smarten up right now) not being responsible of his obligations, his duties as Prime Minister of Canada. The Canadian public need leadership, solid leadership, not a man who runs away. Once this world coronavirus pandemic comes to pass, let’s remove this clown (Trudeau) once and for all through another Federal Election, it just has to be. A non confidence motion should
be the start, someone please man up in Ottawa and make that call immediately.

I’m disappointed but fully understand. The XFL followed suit and canceled alongside their MLB, NBA, NHL, MLS, NLL brethren. These Major Leagues doing the right thing.

It could be worse. If you don’t get ahead of this you could end up like Italy. You have the Jazz player the past while touching players’ things in the dressing room, mikes etc. making light of the whole thing & turns out he’s got it. Airlines aren’t cancelling flights into & out of affected areas, cities shutting down & the market back to 2008 because this is just like the flu. It’s bigger than any sports events.

Forget the coronavirus, let’s talk about the Winnipeg ICE’s four game winning streak and the outstanding goaltending of Liam Hughes!

I will feel robbed if we don’t get WHL playoffs this year. This team was going to turn some heads.

Got to give that WWE clever Vince McMahon credit, wrestling on television has a fake audience background, cheering and all. Weird to see and hear. Wrestlers are real, but that audience, lol. The Show must go on!
