THURSDAY SHOW RECAP: RINGING IN 2020!

Thursday’s show was the first episode of The Rod Pedersen Show of 2020! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes were joined by hockey analyst Jared Dumba (10-year pro & Pats colour analyst) for the entire two hours as they recapped the week so far in sports. Canada was duelling Slovakia in a World Junior Quarterfinal during the show (an eventual 6-1 win) and the panel debated whether Canadian hockey fans are too hard on the national junior team. They all said no, however over 70% of respondents said “yes” on the daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll.
  • TSN 1260 Edmonton’s Jason Gregor joined the show for a sports update from the City of Champions. Regarding the Oilers, he said Edmonton hockey fans “have had it up to here” with being patient, but that’s really the only choice they have. He said it’s up to the fans whether they want to be positive or negative regarding the new hockey ops tandem of Tippett/Holland. With regards to the Eskimos, Gregor said fans are optimistic about new head coach Scott Milanovich however he feels the Esks will need to upgrade their American talent. There’s speculation Chris Jones could be the defensive coordinator on the Milanovich staff but Jason wonders if Jones would be willing to take a demotion from what he had in Saskatchewan, where he had complete control of the organization.
  • Argonauts kicker Zack Medeiros joined the show from southern Ontario for a wide-ranging chat. He explained that he was more of a hockey fan than a football fan growing up (he didn’t start playing football till Grade 12) and is a diehard Philly Flyers supporter. Zack said he’s yet to meet new Argos head coach Ryan Dinwiddie, but he’s heard great things. Medeiros will be a free agent in February and said if he has news on a new contract, he’ll break the story on the RP Show.
  • With Dumba in the house, WHL fans peppered Jared with questions about the upcoming WHL Trade Deadline and what moves he could see happening. He thinks the P.A. Raiders will be in the market for a goaltender, and that the Pats will likely be “sellers” on or before January 10.
  • Thursday’s show is available for viewing now on our Facebook page or you can listen to the podcast by clicking on the PODCAST tab at the top of this page.
  • Be sure to join us for a Football Friday at 10 am CT on Facebook Live! Guests include CFL’ers Jermaine Robinson, Ben Cahoon and Lemar Durant. We’ll also be joined by Hall of Fame Rider broadcaster John Frenzy.

The Head Coach, General Manager of the Edmonton Oilers not the problem with the team as evident by the constant turnovers with those respective positions. It’s the franchise organizational structure and the guys who hang around in the background putting in their pea brain 2 cents. I wouldn’t play for that team for all the tea in China. The NHL Edmonton Oilers now tagged the Mickey Mouse franchise of the NHL,
they’ve become a 3nd class hockey club not worthy of professional status.
