THE VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS ARE WAKING UP TODAY WITH A VERY SCARY FEELING.

MY FAVOURITE NHL TEAM WAS OUSTED FROM THE STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS MONDAY NIGHT, COURTESY A 3-2 OVERTIME LOSS IN GAME 6 TO THE DALLAS STARS.

THE STARS ARE MOVING ON TO THE CUP FINAL FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 20 YEARS.

AND THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS ARE LEAVING THE EDMONTON BUBBLE WONDERING WHAT IN THE WORLD WENT WRONG?

THEY OUTSHOT AND OUTSCORED THE STARS IN THE SERIES BUT LOST! THEY SAY IT’S THE FIRST TIME SINCE 1968 THAT’S HAPPENED IN THE NHL.

IF YOU WERE WATCHING, VEGAS DEFENCEMAN ZACH WHITECLOUD ACCIDENTALLY CHIPPED THE PUCK OVER THE GLASS IN O-T, WHICH DIRECTLY LED TO THE STARS SCORING THE SERIES-WINNING GOAL ON THE POWERPLAY.

BOTH DON CHERRY AND KNIGHTS COACH PETER DEBOER ARE MOANING ABOUT THE CHINTZI-NESS OF THAT PENALTY BUT THE SERIES DIDN’T COME DOWN TO THAT.

AND I REMEMBER WHEN THAT PENALTY WAS BROUGHT IN SOME 25 YEARS AGO BECAUSE DEFENCEMEN WERE DOING IT ALL THE TIME TO GET OUT OF TROUBLE. THEY’RE NOT ABOUT TO CHANGE IT NOW.

DID DEBOER MAKE THE WRONG CALL BY GOING WITH ROBIN LEHNER IN GOAL OVER THE FRANCHISE’S MOST POPULAR PLAYER, MARC-ANDRE FLEURY? WOULD THE TEAM HAVE PLAYED DIFFERENTLY IN FRONT OF THE FLOWER?

YIKES – IT’S TOO PAINFUL TO EVEN LOOK BACK AT THAT.

AND THAT’S WHY THIS IS HELLA SCARY FOR THE VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS:

THEY STILL DON’T KNOW WHY THEY LOST.

THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY ON CAT COUNTRY 98.
