TUESDAY COMMENTARY – ALONG CAME JONES

catcountry

(Listen daily for The Rod Pedersen Show at 9:50 am and 5:20 pm on Cat Country 98 FM)

MONDAY WAS THE KIND OF DAY THAT MAKES YOU FEEL ALIVE!

I KNOW IT, BECAUSE FOR THE LONGEST TIME THEY’VE BEEN FEW AND FAR BETWEEN.

NEWS CAME DOWN OUT OF THE STATES THAT EDMONTON FOOTBALL TEAM HEAD COACH SCOTT MILANOVICH WAS RESIGNING TO TAKE A JOB WITH THE NFL’S INDY COLTS.

IRONICALLY – AND WEIRDLY – SCOTT WAS EDMONTON’S COACH FOR OVER A YEAR BUT NEVER ACTUALLY COACHED A GAME.

ANYWAY, WITHIN MOMENTS CHRIS JONES TWEETED ATEDMONTON SAYING HE’D LOVE THE CHANCE TO COME BACK TO THE CITY OF CHAMPIONS AND WIN ANOTHER GREY CUP.

IT APPEARS JONES’ TIME IN CLEVELAND IS UP AND MY PHONE BLEW UP FROM HIS POSSE, SEEING AN OPPORTUNITY FOR A REUNION IN EDMONTON. THEY WERE SAYING, “TWEET THIS”, “TWEET THAT”, “CALL THIS GUY”, AND “GET JONES ON YOUR SHOW”.

OH – AND CHRIS JONES APPEARS ON THE ROD PEDERSEN SHOW TODAY.

BUT NO SO FAST ON THE EDMONTON THING.

DESPITE THE PERIL THE CFL FINDS ITSELF IN, THOSE NINE HEAD COACHING JOBS ARE CHERISHED AND THERE ARE OTHERS WHOM HAVE AN INTEREST.

BY NAME, I’M TOLD THEY ARE CFL MAINSTAYS JAIME ELIZONDO, MARC TRESTMAN, NOEL THORPE AND OTHERS.

WILL EDMONTON GM BROCK SUNDERLAND BE IN A RUSH TO REPLACE MILANOVICH, OR WILL THE HIRING PROCESS DRAG ON FOR WEEKS OR MONTHS? MY GUESS IS THE FORMER.

BUT TSN CFL REPORTER MATTHEW SCIANNITTI SAID ON SPORTSCENTRE LAST NIGHT THAT THERE IS STILL “SO MUCH UNCERTAINY AROUND THE CFL EVEN FOR 2021”.

PLEASE TELL ME THIS IS NOT THE NEW NORMAL.

THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY ON CAT COUNTRY 98.

Jones won’t be hired in Edmonton. If Elizondo is interested, very likely he will get the gig. He has a good relationship with Sunderland & Harris & was the guy Sunderland wanted but was refused a request to speak with him by the XFL. Milanovich recommended him before he himself got the job. Jones will be back in the CFL next year I suspect. IF the new guy bombs out in Edmonton, MAYBE there. What a disaster if Jones came back & won a Cup in 2022 right in Regina, perhaps going through the Riders to get there.
