TUESDAY COMMENTARY – AMBROSIE’S KICK GOES WIDE

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary at 9:50 am and 5:20 pm on Cat Country 98 FM)

GREY CUP UNITE WEEK KICKED OFF MONDAY WITH CFL COMMISSIONER RANDY AMBROSIE’S STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS.

UNFORTUNATELY THE ADDRESS FELL SHORT.

SOME WERE HOPING AMBROSIE WOULD GIVE DEFINITIVE WORD ON WHETHER THERE WOULD BE A CFL SEASON OR NOT IN 2021.

THAT DIDN’T HAPPEN, NOR DID I EXPECT IT TO. NHL COMMISSIONER GARY BETTMAN CAN’T GUARANTEE HOW OR IF THERE WILL BE A SEASON IN 2021 AND THEIRS IS SUPPOSED TO BE LESS THAN TWO MONTHS AWAY.

THE COVERAGE OF AMBROSIE’S ADDRESS SUGGESTED THE COMMISSIONER WAS “OPTIMISTIC” AND WHILE THAT’S TRUE, I’D SUGGEST IT WASN’T NEARLY ENOUGH “REALISTIC”.

FRANKLY I WAS EXPECTING TO HEAR SOME SORT OF A PLAN FOR THE CFL TO PLAY WITHOUT FANS IN THE STANDS. MOST OTHER LEAGUES ARE DOING THAT NOW.

THAT DIDN’T HAPPEN. AMBROSIE MENTIONED THE DEVELOPMENT OF TWO VACCINES AND MIGHT AS WELL OF HELD HIS HANDS TOGETHER IN PRAYER THAT THOSE VACCINES WILL BE PRODUCED IN TIME FOR NEXT SEASON, WITH MASS DISTRIBUTION.

THERE WAS NO PLAN TO PLAY WITHOUT A VACCINE.

FROM HEALTH OFFICIALS I TRUST, THERE IS NO PLAN IN PLACE YET FOR THE DISTRIBUTION OF A VACCINE. THE PROJECTIONS BY THE EXPERTS OF HOW THIS VIRUS IS GOING TO BE SPREAD HAVE ALL BEEN WAY OFF, AND WE REALLY AREN’T THAT FURTHER AHEAD THAN WHERE WE WERE NINE MONTHS AGO.

YET, SEASON TICKETS FOR YOUR LOCAL CFL TEAM ARE ON SALE NOW.

THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY ON CAT COUNTRY 98.
