It’s Tuesday and time for the Good, the Great and the Ugly!

First the good: The CFL preseason kicked off Monday with a pretty entertaining game at McMahon Stadium in Calgary where the Stampeders toppled the Roughriders 20-15.

The star of the show, for me, was rookie Rider QB Brayden Schager out of Hawaii who led the team in passing and rushing, and scored the Riders’ loan touchdown. Kicker Jonathan Kim was 2/2 on field goals, accounting for six of the other points.

The Stamps will be happy they won at home, and the Riders looked to have some decent new talent. Everybody wins.

Next the great: It was a great Victoria Day doubleheader of sports. The Montreal Canadiens moved onto Round 3 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs with a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory in Game 7 at Buffalo. Alex Newhook scored the winner in extra time as the Habs now move on to face Carolina in the Eastern Conference Final.

This magical run will drive the Hob-haters nuts but I think it’s novel. Canadiens fans are the most nuts in the NHL but they never trash their own team, nor the opposition, and they cheer louder than anybody else.

If there was ever a team of destiny, this feels like it.

And finally, the ugly: Technology lately has gotten the best of me. I don’t know what it is or if I have to take a crash course but we were hoping to host a livestream during Monday’s CFL broadcast but couldn’t get the Facebook Live stream to work.

By the time we did, the game was half over and there was no point in continuing. Tuesday morning I woke up to the news some sort of bug has caused RodPedersen.com to go dark for the day.

Technology is awesome. When it works.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.
