TUESDAY COMMENTARY: FEELING HOT, HOT, HOT
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98, Rock 98.5 FM & LTD Radio)
It’s Tuesday and that means it’s time for another edition of the Good, the Great & the Ugly!
First the good: NFL (rookie) training camps open this week so prepare to have the 4-down league dominate the news cycle.
The CFL’s had a good run with TV ratings increasing incrementally over its first six weeks but now daddy’s home. The NFL is where sports coverage begins and ends on this continent and they’ve earned it.
And with the RP Show airing from NFL markets like South Florida and Atlanta, it’s nice to have a piece of the pie, no matter how small.
NFL kickoff gives me a warm feeling.
Next the great: Speaking of warm feelings, thanks to the many who reached out regarding the health of my beloved Jeep, “Goldie”, who suffered heat stroke on the weekend here in the South.
Turns out the water pump failed but I’m scheduled to pick him up before noon today. One thing about driving old Jeeps; they have old parts.
But the great news is one out of every four vehicles in Florida is a Jeep and with 10.5-million people living in this area, parts aren’t hard to find.
It’s all great!
I can handle the 100-plus degree Fahrenheit conditions as long as my vehicle’s working and I’ve got AC.
And lastly, the ugly: It’s ticket prices.
That’s a topic which needs some discussion and it’s one fans love because they’re the ticket buying public.
You may have heard the local MLS team, Inter-Miami which plays out of nearby Fort Lauderdale, signed global soccer star Lionel Messi on the weekend and their ticket prices immediately tripled or quadrupled. That’s at home and away!
Don’t even get me started on NHL prices in Canada. They’re considered among all sports fans as the most outrageous of any league. And the cheapest ticket you can get for a Dolphins game is $150US. Wanna catch a major Bowl game in the area? It’ll run you 500 bucks at least.
Wanna know the craziest thing? The stadiums are all bursting at the seams, so who really is complaining?
If it’s a problem, I guess you could just stay home.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary
(The Rod Pedersen Show airs daily at 12 pm ET on Game+TV, WQEE Radio, Podcast & YouTube Live)
Ticket prices ARE a problem! The average fan cannot afford to go to a game, so sports has become the purview of the rich for attendance. Thank God for the CFL, proud to say
I have had season tickets for Riders since 1976 (with a couple of small breaks), born in Regina, but have lived in Alberta since 1972. Cannot afford a Flames or Oilers game……two tickets for one game equals season tickets fir Riders season. YIKES!! So sorry Rod, it kinda’ sucks cause I have to stay home…….
