TUESDAY COMMENTARY – IT’S NEVER “GOOD ENOUGH”
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 FM & Rock 98.5 FM)
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH AND I CAN’T TAKE IT ANYMORE.
THE NATION WAS ON THE EDGE OF ITS BASEBALL SEATS ON SUNDAY WAITING TO SEE IF THE TORONTO BLUE JAYS WOULD CLAIM A PLAYOFF BERTH FOR A SECOND STRAIGHT YEAR.
THEY BEAT BALTIMORE 10-1 ON SUNDAY AT ROGERS CENTRE TO COMPLETE THE SWEEP BUT WHEN THE RED SOX AND YANKEES BOTH ALSO WON, THE PLAYOFF MUSIC STOPPED AND TORONTO DIDN’T HAVE A CHAIR.
SEASON OVER.
AND THEN THE PLAUDITS POURED IN. VLADY HAD AN MVP SEASON. THE JAYS LED THE MAJORS IN HOMERUNS AND SET A FRANCHISE RECORD IN DOING SO. ROBBIE RAY’S IN CONTENTION FOR THE CY YOUNG.
HEY, THEY WENT DOWN TO THE FINAL DAY!
AND DON’T FORGET THEY PLAYED TWO-THIRDS OF THEIR HOME GAMES IN DUNEDIN AND BUFFALO!
THESE AREN’T MY EXCUSES. THEY’RE EVERYBODY ELSE’S.
I’M SORRY, BUT IS THIS A SIGN OF HOW SOFT WE’VE BECOME AS A SOCIETY?
THE BLUE JAYS MISSED THE PLAYOFFS BUT BECAUSE OF ALL THESE OTHER THINGS, THAT’S GOOD ENOUGH?
WHEN I DO MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKING – ANOTHER CAREER FROM A PREHISTORIC TIME BEFORE COVID – I TELL THE STORY OF MY DAD RIFLING A HAMMER INTO THE DIRT WHILE WE WERE BUILDING CORRALS ONE DAY ON THE FARM, AND HIS EYES ROLLING INTO THE BACK OF HIS HEAD.
THE REASON FOR HIS FUROR? I DARED TO UTTER THE PHRASE “THAT’S GOOD ENOUGH DAD”.
I DON’T THINK I NEED TO TELL YOU WHAT HAPPENED NEXT.
THAT’S WHY MY DAD WAS A CHAMPION OF THE STANLEY CUP AND MEMORIAL CUP, AND INSTILLED THOSE VALUES INTO ME. WE BOTH HAVE THE RINGS TO PROVE IT.
THE BLUE JAYS HAD FAR TOO MANY MENTAL BUSTS ON THE BASE PATHS AND IN THE FIELD AND BLEW TOO MANY LEADS THIS YEAR. WE ALL FOLLOWED IT, AND I COMMENTED ON IT HERE FROM TIME TO TIME. TO ME THIS SEASON WAS A DISAPPOINTMENT, BECAUSE OF WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN, AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN.
THERE’S NO SUCH THING AS “GOOD ENOUGH”.
THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY
In this world your commentary describes everything to a T – it is why 98% don’t make it and only 2% do. Then it evolves to the “woke” movement, “can’t perform due to mental health”, and everyone is “oppressed”, “systemic bias”, and “racism. The list goes on for excuses as to why losers can’t get their acts together. This applies to literally anything. I said on Day 1 the Blue Jays were not going anywhere. When their highest paid player yanks himself for “fatigue” – not exactly Pete Rose Big Red Machine or Derek Jeter Captain Yankee material. Good enough… Read more »
12-4 Rod, but who’s counting? I agree, they blew at least 10 games this year (for a variety of reasons) and really should have challenged Tampa!
