It’s Tuesday and time for the Good, the Great & the Ugly!

First the good: Canada is bringing bronze home from the World Juniors in Minnesota after a 6-3 victory over Finland in the third-place game. The outcry in Canada over a 3-year gold medal drought has been predictable, but also fascinating to observe.

Is the minor hockey system in Canada broken? Is it such that only rich kids can play? That’s something the powers-that-be will need to address – if they haven’t already – but frankly I like the fact the World Juniors is now a competitive tourney which any country can win.

And I still think if Canada wins gold at the Olympics, this outcry will all die down.

Next the great: Depending on who you listen to, we’re headed into the best weekend of the football year. It’s NFL wildcard weekend with the most playoff games on the calendar, running Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Scruffy added on Monday’s RP Show that we have the Fiesta Bowl and Peach Bowl as an added bonus. So maybe it is.

I still think Banjo Bowl weekend is the best weekend in football: Labour Day rematches in the CFL, Week 1 in the NFL, Week 2 of College Football plus USports and junior football are going too.

Frankly it’s like choosing between pizza and ice cream. Both are awesome!!

And finally the ugly: Doing my best to avoid looking at the ugly side of life in the New Year, and so far it’s worked. But I can tell you the amount of bitching about last week’s NHL Winter Classic in Miami was staggering. I’m not sure if the NHL really cared about the negativity, or if they were just happy people were talking about hockey at all.

As far as the bitchers go, I just think they’re jealous.
