TUESDAY COMMENTARY: TOUGH TO GO BACK

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 FM & Rock 98.5 FM)

IT’S TIME FOR ANOTHER EDITION OF THE GOOD, THE GREAT, AND THE UGLY.

THE GOOD IS THE TORONTO BLUE JAYS, WHO DESPITE BEING IN THE TOUGHEST DIVISION IN THE MAJORS AND NOT MAKING THE PLAYOFFS, ARE STILL VERY ENTERTAINING.

MONDAY NIGHT’S 7-3 HOME WIN OVER THE ORIOLES WAS FUN TO WATCH AND VLADY BOOGYING IN THE DUGOUT AFTER LAUNCHING HIS 37TH AND 38TH HOMERUNS IS JUST PURE ENTERTAINMENT.

IN SPORTS IF YOU’RE NOT SELLING WINS, YOU’D BETTER BE SELLING HOPE AND THE BLUE JAYS ARE DOING JUST THAT.

THE GREAT IS THE FACT THE NFL SEASON IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER. THE PRESEASON IS OVER BUT THE FIRST GAME ISN’T TILL SEPTEMBER 9 WITH DALLAS AT TAMPA BAY. (MY TWO FAVOURITE TEAMS)

THAT GIVES FANS AN EXTRA WEEK OF HYPE, HOLD THEIR FANTASY DRAFTS AND GENERALLY GET GEEKED UP FOR THE SPRINT THAT IS THE NFL SEASON.

THE NFL HAS BECOME #2 TO ONLY HOCKEY IN CANADA, AND YOU CAN’T HELP BUT TAKE YOUR HAT OFF TO THEM FOR HOW THEY DID IT.

AND THE UGLY IS THE REACTION, I’M TOLD THERE’S BEEN, TO THE RIDERS ANNOUNCING YOU’LL HAVE TO PRODUCE A PROOF OF VACCINATION TO ATTEND GAMES BEGINNING IN MID-SEPTEMBER.

FRANKLY I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TOOK THEM SO LONG TO MAKE THE ANNOUNCEMENT, BUT I’M SURE THERE’S A REASON. I CONTINUE TO APPLAUD THE WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS FOR BEING THE FIRST PRO TEAM IN CANADA TO INSTITUTE THE POLICY, AND THE PROCESS IS SEAMLESS (AS I’VE WITNESSED FIRSTHAND).

BUT AS I’VE SAID ON THE ROD PEDERSEN SHOW SO MANY TIMES (AIRING LIVE DAILY ON GAME+ TV, FACEBOOK & YOUTUBE), I’M TOTALLY OVER THIS DEBATE. THE CHANCES TO ARGUE IT ARE ALL OVER THE PLACE, BUT I’M NOT TAKING THE CHEESE.

I VIEW VACCINATION POLICIES NO DIFFERENT THAN THOSE IN THE WORKPLACE, SIMILAR TO A DRESS CODE. CONFORM, OR SEE YOURSELF OUT. YOU’VE ALWAYS GOT THE CHOICE.

AND THE IRONIC THING, FOR ME, IS THAT I WON’T EVEN BE IN THE CITY FOR THE LABOUR DAY CLASSIC WEEKEND. I’VE DISCOVERED THE MAGIC OF SASKATCHEWAN LAKE LIFE AFTER SO MANY SUMMERS WITHOUT IT.

ONCE YOU DO THAT, IT’S TOUGH TO GO BACK.

THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY

Chisel this in stone ala Vern Gosdin: “I VIEW VACCINATION POLICIES NO DIFFERENT THAN THOSE IN THE WORKPLACE, SIMILAR TO A DRESS CODE. CONFORM, OR SEE YOURSELF OUT. YOU’VE ALWAYS GOT THE CHOICE.” …..absolutely nailed it. Dealing with morons in the workplace I can tell you this. Freedom of speech/freedom of expression blah blah blah – yes we all have that right. They just don’t have the right to work in a place anymore so they can go work somewhere else. …..If I knew people died of Covid making the choice NOT to be vaccinated. This is harsh, but I… Read more »

I GOT JABBED EARLIER… MAINLY FEARING THEY MIGHT MAKE IT A THING FOR GAMES… AND THEN WAS PLEASANTLY SURPRISED WHEN THEY DIDN’T. I AM ALL IN FAVOUR OF SMALL BUSINESSES DOING WHATEVER THEY WANT… BUT RIDER GAMES SEEM A LITTLE TOO PUBLIC TO BE FORCING THE JABS ON PPL. I GET THAT SOME MAY FEEL BETTER ABOUT GOING. ANYONE WHO IS REALLY THAT WORRIED IS STAYING HOME ZNYWAY AREN’T THEY? I’M JUST SICK OF IT. LINES TO GET IN WITH THE E TICKETS HAVE BEEN BAD ENOUGH. ENOUGH ABOUT THE NUMBERS. NOBODY CARES. WE WILL ALL GET IT EVENTUALLY. IT… Read more »
