TUESDAY COMMENTARY – TODAY’S THE DAY
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary at 9:50 am and 5:20 pm on Cat Country 98 FM)
A FEW THINGS TODAY …
THE U.S. FEDERAL ELECTION GOES TODAY AND I’LL BE WATCHING CLOSELY. HOWEVER I WON’T BE COMMENTING.
NOT BECAUSE I’M AFRAID OF THE REACTION, BUT BECAUSE I’VE LEARNED NO ONE CARES WHAT I THINK ABOUT THE LEADERS.
AND THAT’S FAIR. BECAUSE I DON’T CARE WHAT LEBRON JAMES, OR TSN’S BRUCE ARTHUR, OR EVEN BOBBY ORR AND JACK NICKLAUS THINK ABOUT POLITICS EITHER.
WHEN TSN BEGAN A POLITICAL COMMENTARY DURING SPORTS CENTRE LAST NIGHT, I CHANGED THE CHANNEL.
I’M NOT INTERESTED IN HAVING YOU CHANGE THE RADIO DIAL BASED ON MY POLITICAL VIEWS.
SO … BACK TO SPORTS.
BLUE JAYS MANAGER CHARLIE MONTOYO WAS NAMED A FINALIST FOR A-L MANAGER OF THE YEAR MONDAY ALONG WITH TAMPA’S KEVIN CASH AND CHICAGO’S RICK RENTERIA.
EVEN SOME BLUE JAYS FANS ARE SHOCKED BY THAT BUT HOW COULD YOU BE? MONTOYO TOOK ONE OF THE YOUNGEST TEAMS IN THE MAJORS, WHICH WAS HOMELESS, AND GOT THEM INTO THE POSTSEASON.
WHAT SHOCKS ME IS THAT THIS IS STILL A REGULAR SEASON AWARD. I MEAN, WHAT’S THE POINT?
WE SAW THE RAPTORS’ DWAYNE CASEY WIN THE NBA’S COACH OF THE YEAR ONLY TO FLOP IN ROUND 1 AND BE FIRED. THAT RIGHT THERE ATTACKS THE CREDIBILITY OF THE AWARD ITSELF.
THE CFL’S GONE BACK AND FORTH ON THIS ISSUE OVER THE YEARS AND CURRENTLY IT’S A REGULAR SEASON TROPHY. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE THAT’S SO IT CAN BE HANDED OUT DURING GREY CUP WEEK.
BUT IT SHOULD GO TO THE COACH WHO DID THE BEST JOB OVER THE COURSE OF THE REGULAR SEASON AND PLAYOFFS.
JUST LIKE KENT AUSTIN IN 2007 AND COREY CHAMBLIN IN 2013.
THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY ON CAT COUNTRY 98.
