TUESDAY COMMENTARY – UPON FURTHER REVIEW

UPON FURTHER REVIEW, IT’S NOT ABOUT HOW MUCH YOU LOVE THE CANADIAN GAME OF FOOTBALL.

IT’S ABOUT HOW OPENMINDED, FLEXIBLE AND PRACTICAL YOU ARE. IN MY HUMBLE OPINION.

WITH FEW OTHER THINGS TO TALK ABOUT IN THE CFL RIGHT NOW (SAVE FOR NEXT WEEK’S ANNUAL CANADIAN COLLEGE DRAFT), THE DEBATE RAGES ON ABOUT THE PROPOSED CFL/XFL MERGER.

STAUNCH, STAUNCH CFL FANS ARE DEADSET ANY CHANGES TO THEIR GAME SHOULD OUR LEAGUE MERGE WITH THE LEAGUE WHICH WAS BOUGHT-OUT-OF BANKRUPTCY BY MOVIE STAR ‘THE ROCK’.

FOR A SPELL OVER THE PAST MONTH I FELT – BECAUSE I’M NOT OPPOSED TO A MERGER AND HAVE BEEN CHAMPIONING A HYBRID OF RULES – THAT MAYBE I JUST DON’T LOVE THE CANADIAN GAME AS MUCH AS MY NEIGHBOURS.

AFTER ALL, SINCE JUNIOR HOCKEY IS MY TRUE LOVE MAYBE MY OPINION JUST DOESN’T COUNT.

THEN I THOUGHT TO MYSELF, WHAT IF THE WHL COLLAPSED DUE TO COVID AND THE ONLY WAY TO SAVE IT WAS TO MERGE THE SASKATCHEWAN SJHL AND WHL TEAMS INTO ONE 16-TEAM LEAGUE WITHIN OUR BORDERS?

MY ONLY QUESTION TO THE TEAM GOVERNORS WOULD BE, “CAN I STILL GO TO THE BRANDT CENTRE 34 TIMES PER YEAR WITH MIKE LEE, PETE SEREGGELA AND OUR WIVES, AND EAT TWIZZLERS AND SIT IN OUR CLUB SEATS WHILE WATCHING THE PATS?”

IF THE ANSWER IS YES, THEN SIGN ME UP!

TURNS OUT I LOVE CANADIAN FOOTBALL JUST AS MUCH AS THE NEXT GUY. BUT I ALSO RECOGNIZE WHEN SOMETHING ISN’T WORKING, AND THE NEED FOR CHANGE. (MY LIFE IS A FINE EXAMPLE, WITH A SERIES OF RE-BRANDS).

THERE WASN’T A FRACTION OF THIS BICKERING WHEN THE NHL OPTED TO ADOPT THE SHOOTOUT AND REMOVE THE RED LINE.

IS THIS SQUAWKING A FOOTBALL THING OR A CANADIAN THING? OR BOTH?

I DON’T KNOW, BUT WHAT I DO KNOW IS THAT I’M EXTREMELY TIRED OF IT.

WAKE ME UP WHEN YOU DECIDE.

THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY.

“I never want anything to change” and “what can be better than this?”

Said the people who kept the NDP in power 40 years and time simply moved on.

My season tickets are renewed. We shall see who they play and how. Football is football.

The people I have noticed who want no change….none of them have actually played football.
