TUESDAY COMMENTARY – WHATCHA GONNA DO?

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 FM & Rock 98.5 FM)

JUST IN THE NICK OF TIME, THE HOCKEY GODS SHOWED UP. AND NOW MONTREALERS ARE DREAMING OF A MIRACLE.

JOSH ANDERSON’S SECOND GOAL OF THE GAME CAME IN OVERTIME MONDAY AS THE CANADIENS BEAT THE TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING 3-2 TO AVOID A SWEEP, AND FORCE A GAME 5 IN TAMPA ON WEDNESDAY.

WE SPOKE MONDAY HOW HABS FANS HERE IN MONTREAL WERE PERFORMING THE LAST RIGHTS OVER THEIR TEAM, AND NOT HOLDING OUT A LOT OF HOPE FOR A MIRACLE.

BUT DON’T TELL THAT TO THE PLAYERS. MONTREAL CAME OUT IN GAME 4 AND PLAYED A BRUISING STYLE, GOALIE CAREY PRICE FOUND HIS OLD FORM, SOME LINEUP TINKERING WORKED, AND JOSH ANDERSON PROVED WHY MONTREAL ACQUIRED HIM BEFORE THE SEASON.

IT’S HARD TO BELIEVE HE’S ONLY GOT FIVE GOALS THIS PLAYOFF YEAR, BECAUSE IT SEEMS LIKE HE’S GOT MORE.

THAT’S BECAUSE EVERYONE HE SCORES IS BIG. ASK VEGAS!

SOMEWHERE SOMEBODY WROTE ON TWITTER THAT THIS STANLEY CUP FINAL WAS THE MOST BORING IN YEARS AND SHE WAS RIGHT. I DON’T THINK THERE’S BEEN A SWEEP SINCE THE 1990’S. BUT IT AIN’T BORING NOW.

COME ON. ADMIT IT! YOU’VE CAUGHT YOURSELF WONDERING IF THERE’S A CHANCE THE CANADIENS CAN COME BACK AND PULL THIS OFF? I HAVE.

MORE THAN ANYTHING, I’M JUST HAPPY THERE’S MORE HOCKEY BUT NOW WE’VE GOT A SERIES.

THE ONLY ONES WHO AREN’T WORRIED – YET – ARE THE TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING. THEIR FANS, AND EVEN TAMPA’S MAYOR, SEE THIS IS A GLOWING OPPORTUNITY TO COME BACK TO FLORIDA AND WIN IT AT HOME IN GAME 5.

BUT THE HABS JUST SEEM TO HAVE THIS QUALITY LIKE HULK HOGAN WHEN THE PIN COUNT GETS TO TWO AND HE PUTS HIS FOOT ON THE BOTTOM ROPE. THAT’S WHEN HE COMES ALIVE.

I CAN’T WAIT TILL WEDNESDAY TO SEE IF HABS-A-MANIA RUNS WILD IN THE VERY CITY WHERE HULKSTER CALLS HOME.

THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY

Terry Bollea/Hulk Hogan similar to the Montreal Canadiens is on a short list of iconic institutions. He changed the game and drew money in the pro-wrestling business one ticket at a time. Having stated that his era is long done similar to any Canadian team going on a run of continued dominance. With the Tampa Bay Lightning they would be the Ric “Nature Boy” Flair of the modern era. They do it out of sight and not a lot of people follow them. No different than Flair in the territory days. Ric always said, “When you walk down that aisle/to… Read more »
