TUESDAY COMMENTARY – WIN THE WAR

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 FM & Rock 98.5 FM)

TODAY’S A MOMENT WHERE WE’RE GOING TO PAUSE AND REFLECT.

WELL, YOU DON’T NECESSARILY HAVE TO, BUT I AM.

A COUPLE THINGS HAPPENED LAST NIGHT THAT MADE ME REALIZE WE’RE A HECKUVA LOT FURTHER AHEAD THAN WE WERE A YEAR AGO.

WATCHING MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL HAS ALWAYS BEEN A TREAT BUT LAST NIGHT’S JACKSONVILLE/NEW ORLEANS GAME SEEMED EXTRA SPECIAL BECAUSE LAST YEAR THERE WAS NO NFL PRESEASON.

THERE ARE QUARTERBACK RACES WITH BOTH THE JAGUARS AND SAINTS AND IT WAS FUN TO WATCH #1 PICK TREVOR LAWRENCE RUN FOR HIS LIFE IN A 23-21 LOSS, AND THEN TAKE ALL THE HEAT AFTERWARDS IN THE POSTGAME NEWS CONFERENCE. (HE WAS PRESSURED ON 41% OF HIS DROPBACKS, BUT SAID HE NEEDS TO GET RID OF THE BALL QUICKER).

IT WAS JUST NICE TO BE ABLE TO SPEND AN EVENING WATCHING AND ANALYZING NFL FOOTBALL.

THEN, ON AN APPEARANCE WITH THE OFFSIDE HOCKEY PODCAST OUT OF EASTERN CANADA, I CHATTED CFL, NLL AND OF COURSE NHL WITH THE HOSTS OUT OF HALIFAX AND HAMILTON.

JOSH, THE HAMILTONIAN, BEMOANED THE FACT HIS TICATS ARE 0-2 AND ARE THE CFL’S ONLY WINLESS TEAM ENTERING WEEK 4. AND DON’T GET HIM STARTED ON HIS BELOVED MAPLE LEAFS WHO WON THE CANADIAN DIVISION PENNANT LAST YEAR, THEN FOLDED LIKE A CHEAP TENT IN GAME 7 OF ROUND 2 AGAINST MONTREAL.

IT WAS NICE TO BE TALKING SPORTS AND FRANKLY, I’M GONNA STAY IN THIS BUBBLE FOR AS LONG AS I CAN.

THE VACCINATION DEBATES HAVE ATTEMPTED TO RAGE INTO OUR SPORTS COVERAGE – IN FACT RIDER GREAT JOHN CHICK CHIMED IN REGARDING SOME OF OUR COVID COMMENTS ON MONDAY’S ROD PEDERSEN SHOW – BUT HE QUICKLY FOOTNOTED HIS THOUGHTS BY SAYING HE LOVES ME!

IT SEEMS LIKE A LOT OF SOCIETY HAS AN INSATIABLE DESIRE TO KEEP FIGHTING, A FULL YEAR AND A HALF INTO THIS.

BUT SOMETIMES YOU WIN THE WAR BY SURRENDERING. I’VE EXPERIENCED THIS A FEW TIMES IN MY LIFE, AND IT ACTUALLY WORKS.

THROUGH THAT CONCEPT, I’VE BEEN ABLE TO FIND PEACE.

THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY

I think you’re doing great and it’s so nice to see the promises come true. It inspires. I do like to argue and cajole as I missed my calling to be a “heel” in professional wrestling. Make no mistake I spend zero time thinking about any of this or the people on here. If I got Pete Rose’d from this blog then that’s the end. It was a heck of a run since 2007. With no social media of any sort I’ve never been more at peace. Sun Tzu tells us in the Art of War many good things that… Read more »

Jacksonville will be going nowhere in the NFL. Pete Carroll was not a college coach, he was an NFL guy that went to USC then back to the NFL. Did anyone watch/hear Jimmy Johnson’s HOF speech or read the book Boys Will Be Boys? Urban Meyer is a great NCAA coach and he’ll do okay, but not to the promised land. Jimmy Johnson finished up his NCAA career at Miami which was basically an NFL/Pro team. He proceeds to go on a run, comes to the house tell his then wife he can’t coach the Cowboys and be married at… Read more »

the ‘bubble’ of talking sports, as you refer to it, does have its perks for sure – it has only been through this, especially via the cfl’s resumption of action, that i’ve been able to re-connect with someone from my past whose current/recent health issues are far too large to be discussed at length, so i say yes, yay, in all sincerity, to all the joy/drama/etc. of games and banter around them! your approach to life, though, sprinkled through many of your posts over the years, has been the most attractive for me, and i do hope that more people… Read more »

This just in, Ole Randy the CFL Commissioner now saying that CFL team charter flights will not be exempted from Canada flight bans that all people on planes must be vaccinated. They’ll be some mighty long bus rides to Montreal or Vancouver and places in between for players if they want to continue playing. Only in Canada you say, pity.
