Tuesday Commentary: Winning Ugly

(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on All New Hits 98 & LTD Radio)
It’s Tuesday and time for the Good, the Great & the Ugly!
First the good: It’s a coach’s dream when you can sit out players for disciplinary reasons, and still win.
That was the case for the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football as coach Brian Schottenheimer benched star receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens for the opening drive against the Raiders in Las Vegas. The Cowboys went on to win the game 33-16, and the players humbly accepted their punishment.
They’re also not saying what they did to deserve the benching, but I’m guessing it had something to do with being on a road trip to Vegas.
Next the great: As I’ve long said, one of the funnest things about sports is each time you go to the arena, stadium or ballpark, something could happen you’ve never seen before.
That was the case in Sunrise, Florida last night as 16 Panthers players found the scoresheet in an 8-5 romp over the Vancouver Canucks. That even included goalie Sergei Bobrovsky, who recorded an assist! The 16 players tied an NHL record, and set a Panthers record.
I expected to see a stern Sergei in the locker room after the game – whatwith giving up five goals on a very “non-Bob” type night – but the Russian had a somewhat dazed, bewildered smile on his face.
Winning ugly will do that to ya.
And finally the ugly: The Roughriders will wrap up the 2025 CFL season with a championship parade today. None of that is ugly. What is ugly is the bubbling situation regarding the CFL rules & field changes unpopularly announced by Commissioner Stewart Johnston last month.
Rider great Ray Elgaard poopoo’ed the changes on Monday’s RP Show but I’ve made it clear our show isn’t going to be a daily forum for CFL fans to vent their frustrations about the changes all winter.
There’s too many other great things going on in sports these days for us to dedicate our time.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

“Rider great Ray Elgaard poopoo’ed the changes on Monday’s RP Show but I’ve made it clear our show isn’t going to be a daily forum for CFL fans to vent their frustrations about the changes all winter.”
That’s for your show, what about this blog? Have you instructed Scruffy and Stack to lay off the propaganda?
Two different things.
CFL announced it will be reviewing it’s Command Center this off season. The controversial Neld Ruling amongst other will be dealt with front and center.
In any sport I believe the Command Centre should be two rooms. In one room employees are watching several different views of the game.
In the other room “The Challenge room” the staff is isolated and should only view ‘plays’ that have been challenged and not know what the call on the field or ice was because they tend to not want to overturn a call.
