TUESDAY COMMENTARY – YOU *CAN* GO HOME

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 FM & Rock 98.5 FM)

I’LL ADMIT TO BEING PRETTY EXCITED ABOUT TONIGHT.

THE VOICE OF THE NOTRE DAME HOUNDS – THE INFAMOUS JAMIE “NEUGSIE” NEUGEBAUER – EXTENDED AN INVITATION FOR ME TO COME OUT AND BROADCAST THE HOUNDS GAME IN WILCOX.

IT’S BEEN A WHIRLWIND SEVERAL MONTHS OF BROADCASTING FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY – ATTENDING NHL GAMES AND ARENAS FROM MONTREAL TO SUNRISE TO EDMONTON – BUT IT STRUCK ME RIGHT TO HAVE THE CHANCE TO BE ON THE AIR FROM AN ARENA NINE MILES FROM WHERE I GREW UP.

I SCANNED THE SJHL SCHEDULE AND NOTICED TONIGHT’S OPPOSITION IS THE MELFORT MUSTANGS, UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF TREVOR BLEVINS.

OF COURSE THAT BROUGHT WITH IT PERUSING THE SJ STANDINGS WHICH I HADN’T DONE FOR AWHILE.

THE MUSTANGS ARE SECOND IN THE SHERWOOD DIVISION, WHILE THE HOUNDS ARE THIRD IN THE GLOBAL AG RISK DIVISION. (ASK ME ABOUT GLOBAL AG RISK SOLUTIONS SOMETIME, AND I’LL TELL YOU ABOUT THEM).

OF COURSE AS IS THE CUSTOM, I FELL DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE OF EXAMINING THE ENTIRE SJHL STANDINGS AND WAS SURPRISED TO SEE MIKE REAGAN’S FLIN FLON BOMBERS LEADING THE ENTIRE LOOP WITH 22 POINTS.

I THOUGHT HUMBOLDT AND CENTENNIAL-CUP HOST ESTEVAN WERE SUPPOSED TO RUN AWAY WITH THE WHOLE THING?

DEAD-LAST ARE THE MELVILLE MILLIONAIRES WHICH, TO ME, IS ANOTHER SURPRISE. THE WEYBURN RED WINGS ARE JUST TWO POINTS UP ON THEM, AND THE YORKTON TERRIERS ARE TWO POINTS UP ON THEM.

I RECALLED THAT THE FIRST AND ONLY SJHL BROADCAST I EVER DID BEFORE RECONNECTING WITH THE LEAGUE A FEW YEARS AGO WAS MELFORT/NOTRE DAME WAY BACK IN 1992.

I GET A CHILL EACH AND EVERY TIME I WALK INTO THAT FACILITY, AND NEVER FORGET WATCHING CUJO, BRIND’AMOUR, PELLERIN AND THE GANG WHILE IN HIGH SCHOOL JUST DOWN HIGHWAY 39.

PUCK DROP TONIGHT AT THE DUNC IS 8:00 AND WE’LL HAVE THE CALL.

WHO SAYS YOU CAN’T GO HOME?
