TUESDAY RUNDOWN: BACK IN THE SADDLE!

We were back from the Stanley Cup Final on Tuesday’s Episode #519 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow – but that didn’t stop the hockey talk plus the latest on the CFL & NLL! Read on for the rundown:

  • RP hosted the Warmup for EECOL Electric alone since Moose is taking a couple extra days off, covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Montreal avoided a sweep with a 3-2 OT win over Tampa in Game 4 at the Bell Centre. Plus we learned we’ve got tons of viewers in Quebec! 2) Did Tampa Mayor Jane Coulter jinx the Lightning?, 3) The NBA Finals open tonight with Milwaukee at Phoenix, 4) In CEBL play Monday, Edmonton downed Ottawa 104-87 and Hamilton got past Guelph 101-89, 5) With CFL training camps looming could you imagine trying to coach such a moving target as these rosters??, and 6) Thoughts on the passing of Columbus Blue Jackets goalie Matiss Kivlenieks.
  • Sportsnet’s Sean Reynolds joined the show from Montreal to recap Monday’s huge Canadiens win. He broke down the game and said, obviously, the Canadiens played their best game of the series. He’s still not sure if the Habs can come back but at least they’ve given themselves a chance. “Renny” agreed that Montreal does hockey better than anybody else but said Winnipeg’s Canada Life Centre is still as good of a venue as any. Sean and Rod gave predictions on what’s next for the Stanley Cup Final including Game 5 on Wednesday in Florida.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Can the Canadiens come back to win the series in 7? At press time over 70% of respondents said no.
  • In the Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff for the Four Season Sports Palace we were joined by 3DownNation’s Justin Dunk who gave us an inside look at CFL happenings. He reported that getting players into Canada has been “a nightmare” in some cases but agreed with Rod that training camps will open regardless. It’s a tenuous situation but teams are doing the best they can. The pair brushed on the rash of CFL retirements but noted the Stampeders and Argonauts have largely escaped unscathed. They also reported that they’re hearing veteran Saskatchewan CB L.J. McCray plans to retire.
  • Next up was NLL TV host Devan Kaney from Philadelphia who recapped last week’s expansion draft for the Panther City Lacrosse team in Fort Worth, TX. She was in Fort Worth for the draft and said it’s exciting for the franchise to finally have players! She answered tons of viewer questions including the Toronto Rock moving to Hamilton, Wayne Gretzky & Co. owning the expansion team in Las Vegas, and what’s led to the explosion of the NLL? She credited Commissioner Nick Sakiewicz. The Philly product is very much looking forward to attending her first Saskatchewan Rush home game.
  • RP and Producer Clark Faced Off on whether Carey Price will win the Conn Smythe Trophy as NHL Playoffs MVP? They agreed that the Habs will need to win the series for that to happen and that his first three games of the Stanley Cup Final weren’t that good. The Face Off is a presentation of UFZ Moose Jaw and The Mad Greek Restaurant.
