TUESDAY RUNDOWN: BENGALS MANIA, WKRP, CFL & HOCKEY TALK!

IMG_5340

We predicted that Tuesday’s show would be a ton of fun and Episode #467 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show – didn’t let us down! Read on for the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont kicked it off with The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Monday NHL leftovers (Marleau Monday), 2) The CFL’s Board of Governors meets Tuesday with the expectation they’ll vote in favour of delaying the start of training camps, 3) Edmonton sportswriter Dan Barnes says some CFL owners think the league can withstand a two-year absence, 4) The Blue Jays open a midweek series at AL East-leading Boston, 5) Rachel Homan and Bruce Mouat win the Humpty’s Champions Cup, and 6) Does advertising work on you as a sports consumer? The viewers and hosts agreed that it most certainly does.
  • The RP Show airs across Ohio on Game+TV  on the Buckeye Cable System and ESPN 1530 Cincinnati’s Mo Egger joined the show as a recurring guest. The Bengals unveiled their new uniforms on Monday and Mo said all that matters is what Rod thinks about them. RP asked what changed? Mo laughed and said he’s been begging for a uniform change for 17 years! Viewers went bonkers with NFL Draft preview talk and Mo outlined the Bengals’ needs. He also discussed the NL Central-leading Cincinnati Reds and all other kinds of sports talk.
  • The show spun off into a discussion about the famed TV comedy series WKRP In Cincinnati and Dupes admitted he’s never seen an episode. (The show went off the air in 1982 and Darren was born in 1987). Viewers chimed in with their favourite WKRP moments and characters. RP said his first crush was WKRP star Loni Anderson, who played radio station receptionist Jennifer Marlowe.
  • Given the uproar over Patrick Marleau breaking the NHL’s career games played record, the daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Should the NHL merge WHA stats? At press time, around 60% of respondents said no.
  • The Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff was spicy as the guys debated the state of the CFL with viewers and of course the WKRP talk continued.
  • Longtime Edmonton sports media figures Bryn Griffiths and Robin Brownlee of The Outsiders Podcast joined the show to discuss all these topics. Bryn was the first to report that at least one CFL team doesn’t want to play this year but admitted that trail’s gone cold. The pair agreed that the secrecy is not a good thing although Bryn surmised that perhaps no news is good news. They’d love to see Canadian football preserved in a merger. Robin covered the Oilers for years and said Edmonton’s buzzing since the Oilers will be in the playoffs. However he feels their biggest test could be Winnipeg in Round 1.
  • In the Viewer Takeover segment Dupes explained why a Pay Per View offering wouldn’t work for the CFL and broke down the numbers as to why not enough Canadians would sign up for it.

Watching the Leafs game against Van. That Morgan Rielly always out of his playing position, again caught out on the second Canucks goal. Trade him, get Eric Karlsson on that roster next season.
