TUESDAY RUNDOWN: BIG LAUGHS WITH THE HOCKEY BOYS

Tuesday’s Episode #328 of the RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show – was big laughs and as much Covid-free as we could get! Read on:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Tampa Bay wins the Stanley Cup, 2) It’s Blue Jays playoff game day!, 3) Kansas City routs Baltimore 34-20 on Monday Night Football, 4) Justin Dunk notes: A new CFL Commissioner?, 5) The NBA Finals pit the Heat against the Lakers, and 5) What’s next for sports?
  • Since the Jays play Game 1 at Tampa Tuesday afternoon, RP clapped back at those who say the Jays season is a success even if they lose out to the Rays. Aren’t we in it to win it all? He feels anything less is loser mentality.
  • NHL Network analyst and Nashville lawyer Stu “The Grim Reaper” Grimson joined the show from Seacaucus, NJ to recap the Stanley Cup Playoffs and said the Lightning are deserving champions. He agreed with Rod that former Lightning GM Steve Yzerman isn’t getting enough credit. Stu and RP reflected on the sports dinner in Estevan in the spring of 2019 featuring those two as well as NHL enforcers Jim McKenzie and Reid Simpson. The quartet abused each other on the mic all evening and Estevanites said it was the best sports banquet they’ve ever had! Stu also talked about the Covid outbreak with his hometown Tennessee Titans, and why he decided to settle in Nashville (it’s a nice blend of city and country).
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which is Canada’s Game of the Week in Week 17 of the CFL SIM – BC at Toronto, Hamilton at Montreal or Saskatchewan at Edmonton? The Riders/Edmonton won by a large margin. The poll winner will be broadcast Thursday at 7:00 pm on the RP Show Facebook channel.
  • Hour 2 was broadcast on Facebook Live only and RP re-upped the Quick Six show topics and then was joined by the Fleury brothers – Haydn of the Carolina Hurricanes and Cale of the Montreal Canadiens on a 3-way call. The Carlyle products are spending the off-season in Calgary. They discussed NHL bubble life, their Stanley Cup Playoff series, said Dallas Stars great Brendan Morrow of Carlyle used to be their babysitter, reflected on golf at White Bear and Kenosee courses, and discussed hosting Memorial Cup tournaments in Red Deer and Regina. Neither one has any idea when the NHL will return to play.
  • The guys discussed Justin Dunk’s report that Ken Derrett may be in line to be the next Commissioner of the CFL. RP asked why anyone would want the job in this climate but the Rod Squad (show crew) feels a lot of guys are eager for a challenge such as this. It also comes with a large salary. The panel debated Randy Ambrosie’s legacy if he is indeed on the way out.
  • Next up was Toronto broadcaster Jim Lang who agreed with Rod that the Blue Jays should expect to beat Tampa Bay and nothing less, even though some Jays are building in excuses already. Jimbo is Canada’s foremost expert on the NFL and he reflected on the Monday Nighter, scolded Cowboys Owner/GM Jerry Jones for being critical of QB Dak Prescott, and examined the Covid outbreak with the Titans and what it means for this week’s game against Pittsburgh.
