TUESDAY RUNDOWN: RICH PILON AND DAKODA SHEPLEY!

Episode #309 of The RP Show was one of our best yet! Here’s the recap:

  • Rod and Dupes got it going with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The Blue Jays are in it to win it, 2) The Raptors face the Celtics in Game 2 Tuesday afternoon, 3) The Lightning advance and the Avalanche stave off elimination, 4) The Henderson Silver Knights hire Manny Viveiros as head coach, 5) Vernon Adams Jr. opts out of his CFL contract and 6) If CFL Commissioner Randy Ambrosie has an image problem, how should he go about fixing it?
  • Washington Capitals TV analyst Alan May joined the show from D.C. to talk about the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The former Estevan Bruin feels the Caps were out-coached in Round 1 and that led to the ouster of Todd Reirdon. He feels if Mike Babcock were to be Washington’s next head coach, he’ll need to refine his methods. May also figures Braden Holtby’s time in Washington may be up due to cap restraints but he has plenty of good hockey left. Alan disagreed with Rod that goalies should be the highest-paid players in the NHL, and said Colorado/Dallas is the best second round series.
  • CFL: Alan May feels the NHL has too many coaches and the game is “over-coached”. Rod said if the CFL feels the same way, now’s the time to downsize with a perceived reset. The host feels that all marketing and fundraising ideas are well-and-good, but the nuts and bolts of the CFL need to be addressed during the pandemic.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which CFL SIM Week 13 rivalry game should be broadcast in a doubleheader with Riders/Bombers on the RP show Facebook page? At press time, Calgary/Edmonton was winning out by a large margin over Toronto/Hamilton.
  • Hour 2 was broadcast on Facebook Live only and we were joined in studio by Weyburn Red Wings GM/Head Coach Rich Pilon. The Islanders/Rangers/Blues alum said the SJHL teams are preparing for Extended Training Camps and plan to begin play in early- to mid-October. The MJHL is opening their season October 9. Pilon then got into some great hockey stories including his time in New York with Glen Sather and John Tortorella and battles with Flyers great Eric Lindros.
  • Junior A fans from all across the country chipped in with comments on their various leagues’ Return To Play and we heard from BC, Ontario, Alberta and the Maritimes.
  • San Francisco 49ers offensive lineman – and former Roughrider – Dakoda Shepley joined the show from San Fran training camp on an off-day. He explained why he opted out of his CFL deal saying he’s trained so hard for a season and that the NFL presented the best opportunity. The Windsor, ON product feels his time with the Thunderbirds, Jets and Roughriders have prepped him well for this chance and he plans to stay.
  • Chris Kaytor of North Regina Little League joined the bunker to talk about being awarded $40,000 from the Jays Care Foundation and how the funds will be put to use.
  • You can vote now on our Twitter poll for the Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions. At press time, Dakoda Shepley was leading. Monday’s vote was won by Peter Loubardias.
