TUESDAY RUNDOWN: ROD BLACK & JAMIE CAMPBELL!
We welcomed more big sports names to the show on Episode #366 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow! Here’s the rundown:
- Rod and Dupes kicked it off with The Warmup for the Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The Rams held off the Buccaneers 27-24 on Monday Night Football, 2) Junior A Notes – Humboldt beat Notre Dame 3-1 Monday, the Flin Flon Bombers have suspended their season indefinitely and the OJAHL plans a January 1 start date, 3) NHL Network’s Darren Pang predicts a January 15 NHL start date, 4) More NFL Notes – Joe Burrow is out for at least nine months and is the door open for the Cowboys to win the NFC East?, 5) Toronto FC opens the MLS Playoffs Tuesday night against Nashville in Hartford (will you be watching?), and 6) Any CFL notes?
- News broke during the show that two members of Canada’s World Junior team have tested positive for Covid so Tuesday’s intrasquad game has been cancelled. Also, the Brandon Wheat Kings have hired Don McGillvary as head coach, replacing Dave Lowry who resigned Monday to join the Winnipeg Jets.
- TSN star Rod Black joined the show from his Toronto home for a wide-ranging, two-segment chat. He was particularly heartbroken over the absence of a Grey Cup game, and explained why. He talked about the unrest over the Raptors’ losses in free agency and reminded fans that there was outrage over Demar Derozen being shipped out, but they wound up winning it all. Although the Raps will open the season with Tampa as their home, Blackie hopes they can finish the season in Toronto. Winnipeg viewers came alive with all kinds of Rod Black stories from his hometown, and Rod regaled the audience with stories of playing on the Blue Bombers/Media hockey team. RP chipped in with his own stories of playing on the Roughriders hockey team over the years.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: The RP Show is situated in — The Bermuda Triangle of the NHL, The Heartland of the CFL, The Sweatpants Capital, or Other? At press time, the leader was Heartland of the CFL.
- Hour 2 was simulcast on Game+ TV and Facebook Live and after re-upping on the Quick Six show topics, we were joined by Blue Jays Central host Jamie Campbell from Toronto. He revisited the Blue Jays’ brief playoff appearance and feels the young club learned many hard lessons from the AL champion Tampa Bay Rays. Campbell said people are being too hard on Vladdy Jr. for being overweight and if he’s effective at the weight, what’s the need to shed pounds? Jamie also took questions from viewers regarding the Jays free agency plans and he said the team has a lot of money to spend so perhaps Rogers (owners of the Jays) haven’t been hit that hard financially by the pandemic. He also talked about living in the Toronto lockdown and dealing with his young children in these trying times. Campbell also predicted the Blue Jays will play out of Buffalo again in 2021.
- CFL fans wrote in asking for suggestions on CFL documentaries to watch during stay-at-home orders and RP suggested the series CFL Traditions (available on YouTube) which he feels is the best series ever produced on the CFL.
