TUESDAY RUNDOWN: SJHL CANCELS, PLUS KEN REID & JIM LANG!
It was a range of emotions on Tuesday’s Episode #448 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow! Read on for the rundown:
- RP and Moose Dupont opened with The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) SJHL players past and present Tweet that the league has cancelled its season (near the end of the show it was confirmed by the SJHL. Rod and Darren asked that viewers consider what the players, staff and fans are going through at this time), 2) Monday NHL leftovers, 3) Dub Hub – Pats vs ICE Tuesday night on AccessNow TV!, 4) The Houston Rockets and Swift Current Broncos snapped lengthy slides on Monday night while the Sabres & Raptors losing streaks continued, 5) March Madness, and 6) CFL/XFL talk. Rod appeared on The Outsiders podcast in Edmonton and host Bryn Griffiths reported he’s heard at least one CFL team wants to merge but also hears the XFL may not be interested in merging with all 9 CFL teams.
- Sportsnet anchor Ken Reid joined the show and applauded The RP Show for filling a void in Canadian sports talk. A big sports card enthusiast, Ken discussed the current rise in popularity of the trade and pointed to some popular Sports Card Podcasts viewers may want to check out. Regarding the Blue Jays, Ken said the team will be very entertaining to watch in 2021 but doesn’t expect a championship run. He feels the Jays lack starting pitching.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Should the Raptors trade Kyle Lowry? At press time, Twitter respondents voted in favour of ‘yes’ while Facebook voters said ‘no’.
- In Hour 2 re-upped the Quick Six in the second half kickoff. Regarding the poll question, RP figures no teams should trade their stars and that Lowry should stay put. There was plenty of talk on CFL/XFL discussions, the future of the CFL, and junior hockey’s Return To Play.
- Canada’s foremost NFL expert Jim Lang joined the show from Toronto and broke down the latest NFL monster TV deal and explained how NFL teams don’t need to sell a single ticket to turn a profit. He also explained how other leagues such as the NHL and NBA don’t have that luxury. Regarding NFL free agency, Jim agreed that the New England Patriots are the big winners. Regarding the possibility of a CFL/XFL merger, Jim said the CFL should consider it deeply and he’s in favour of it.
- RP and Dupes Faced Off on the Calgary Flames. Rod believes they’ll turn it around under Darryl Sutter while Dupes predicted they won’t, and they’ll have to “blow it up”. The Face Off is a presentation of UFZ Moose Jaw and The Mad Greek Restaurant.
