TUESDAY RUNDOWN: THE REAL KYPER, PRIESTNER & MORE!

Tuesday was an explosive show with lots of breaking news and opinion on Episode #482 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show! Read on for the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont kicked it off with The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Monday NHL leftovers (the Habs back into the playoffs and the Oilers’ best players are their best players), 2) Sask Rush sale leftovers, 3) Tim Tebow comes out of retirement as a Tight End with the Jacksonville Jaguars, 4) The NFL schedule is to be released Wednesday! That’ll give us an indication on our next RP Show VIP Sports Trip destination, 5) Terry Bradshaw calls Aaron Rodgers “weak”, and 6) The Blue Jays open a midweek series at Atlanta.
  • Saskatoon Blades President Colin Priestner joined the show to discuss his family’s purchase of the Saskatchewan Rush pro lacrosse team. Colin said he’s not certain on the Urban Family’s reasons for selling the franchise (you’d have to ask them) but the Priestners are eager to add to their sports portfolio and cross-promote the Blades & Rush. He feels they’re taking over the marquee franchise of the NLL so not much change is needed. He also admitted to being a lacrosse newbie but is eager to learn the sport and league! He also talked about the tremendous season the Blades recently completed in the Regina Hub (a third-place finish) and the road to building that franchise into prominence.
  • News broke during the show that the NLL’s Toronto Rock are moving to Hamilton for the 2021-22 season, and also the Vegas Golden Knights ownership group has acquired an expansion franchise in the Indoor Football League. Rod and Darren debated with viewers how this affects the CFL.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question turned out to be explosive: What’s the best breakfast spot – Humpty’s, Smitty’s, Denny’s or Other? At press time, Denny’s was leading on both Facebook and Twitter. There were several write-in ballots for Cora’s and Ricky’s.
  • In the Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff we debated more of the day’s news, Return To Play in our various favourite leagues and much more.
  • NHL great and host of the Real Kyper At Noon show Nick Kypreos joined the show for a revealing chat on the NHL. Nick’s not surprised that the Maple Leafs will finish first but was surprised by the team’s wire-to-wire lead in the standings. He also got into the fate of the NY Rangers – with whom he won a Stanley Cup in 1994 – and said there’s likely no room for a return for Mark Messier. Nick said he wouldn’t be surprised by a return of John Tortorella behind the Rangers bench. He also got into the Jack Eichel explosion in Buffalo and said he wouldn’t be surprised if the Rangers captain ends up in New York. Kyper is a great NHL insider and dropped the bomb that Jets star Nikolaj Ehlers won’t be ready in time for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
