TUESDAY RUNDOWN: WE GOT IT ALL, INCLUDING ROD BLACK!

We had a little bit of everything on Episode #398 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show – on Tuesday! Here’s the rundown:

  • Rod and Dupes got it going with The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Alabama rolls Ohio State 52-24 in the NCAA Football Championship Game, 2) Thousands of Crimson Tide fans took to the streets in Tuscaloosa. What do we think about that?, 3) NHL.com’s Power Rankings have the Top 5 as Tampa, Colorado, Vegas, St. Louis and Philadelphia, 4) The Eagles fire head coach Doug Pederson, 5) The Raptors are 2-8 after a 112-111 loss at Portland, and 6) Willie Jefferson restructures his Blue Bombers deal, and the pressure’s ramping up on the CFL to play in 2021 since other Canadian leagues are returning to play.
  • Calgary Flames colour commentator Peter Loubardias joined the show from Cowtown and the panel answered NHL questions from viewers including queries about American teams from U.S. viewers. Lou figures the Avalanche are some kind of team but reminded us that the Flames won’t play them due to divisional realignment and the border closure. Peter discussed expectations from Flames fans, and preached patience from WHL fans regarding the league’s announcement last week of a Return To Play.
  • RP Show Charlotte NFL correspondent Brian Snow joined the show to discuss all things football. He admires Alabama’s dominance and refuted calls to break up the program saying if somebody wants to knock them off their perch, they need to beat them. The Snowman previewed this weekend’s NFL divisional playoff games and expects the Buccaneers to get rolled by the Saints.
  • Hour 2 was simulcast on Game+ TV and Facebook Live and after re-upping the Quick Six and kibitzing with viewers, we were joined by TSN broadcaster Rod Black. As has become the custom with Blackie, the conversation veered away from sports and included Canadian politicians traveling over the Holidays, and the Alabama fan march. Black quipped, “Alabama Covid Tide”. He hijacked Rod’s Rant for Bronco Plumbing & Heating. Black also got into Netflix reviews and suggestions and revealed that his son is playing NCAA Baseball in Glendive, MT so he plans to be in the area as soon as possible.
  • There was a lot of talk about CFL business and a Return To Play in the Covid environment. Viewers were passionate about the topic and some were bewildered that the league wouldn’t have a plan to play with limited crowds. RP said the news releases of player contract restructuring is akin to the 1990’s where the teams announced outright paycuts. The host said the difference is simply the language the CFL is using these days.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which is your featured game of NFL division playoff weekend – Rams/Packers, Ravens/Bills, Browns/Chiefs or Buccaneers/Saints? At press time, Tampa/New Orleans was leading.
  • Rod Black was named the Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions by acclimation. Monday’s winner was John Forslund from the NHL On NBC.
