TUESDAY RUNDOWN: WORLD JUNIORS ANALYSIS AND CFL TALK!
The country’s fired up and we touched on all the hot points on Episode #394 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show! Here’s the rundown:
- Rod and Dupes got it going with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) In the World Junior semifinals Canada beat Russia 5-0 and USA downed Finland 4-3 on Monday. The gold medal final is Tuesday night between Canada and the USA, 2) Patrik Laine just wants to play hockey in Winnipeg, 3) The Blue Bombers bring back Stanley Bryant and Jake Thomas, 4) NY Giants coach Joe Judge rips Eagles coach Doug Pederson for apparently tanking their Week 17 game (RP says Judge should just coach his own team), 5) The Raptors are 1-5 after a 126-114 loss to the Celtics, and 6) Blades Voice Les Lazaruk Tweeted a rumour that Hockey Canada will shutdown the entire season for all leagues on Wednesday.
- Fan 960 Calgary’s Riley Pollock joined the show from Cowtown to breakdown the World Juniors. Rod said of the 36-million people in Canada, “Busta Riles” might be the most excited for the tourney. Pollock feels this could be Canada’s second-best team ever and predicts a Canada win over USA Tuesday evening. Regarding the outlook for the Flames, Riley thinks not even Calgarians think the Flames will win the North Division, but should be in the top three. He also expects David Rittich will play 25%-33% of the Flames games in goal.
- RP Show WJHC/NHL Insider Rich Sutter joined the show from his home in Lethbridge and recapped the World Junior semifinals and broke down Tuesday night’s gold medal game. He feels the goaltending is awash, but the Americans are slightly more skilled. He agreed that this might be the greatest Canadian team ever, given their dominance of the tournament.
- Hour 2 was simulcast on Game+ TV and Facebook Live and after re-upping the Quick Six, Rod went into a rant on the 20 Canadian politicians who travelled out-of-country over the Holidays. He feels every single one of them should be fired.
- Montreal Alouettes tightend and former Roughrider Spencer Moore joined the show from Hamilton along with his wife Shelby. He discussed pandemic life as a CFL player, and promoted the launch of his new training business One More Rep. You can contact him on Instagram at @spencermoore80 to get involved. Spencer also discussed his impassioned Tweet this summer about how important the CFL is to Canada and the immense reaction. He said the response proved how much Canadians loved the CFL. The Hamilton product also described Boomer Esiason’s colour commentary in the Rams/Cardinals game as “second-rate”.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Are you okay with the NHL selling sponsorships for their division names? At press time over 80% of respondents said yes.

So …. Chevrolet bullied there way into Skoda’s corner at the IIHF Championships. Pleasant TSN tv viewing would be seeing a square bodied 4 door 1977 Skoda 120 sitting in its usual corner at the rink. Please bring back the historic Skoda sponsorship.
