Tuesday was Episode #90 of The Rod Pedersen Show. Here are the highlights!

  • With Tuesday morning’s news that the Toronto Argonauts have fired GM Jim Popp and replaced him with Pinball Clemons – with John Murphy named to the management team – Rod dissected the news in the Warmup with Riders/Eskimos/Ticats alum Chris Getzlaf and Riders/Stamps/Ticats alum Marshall Hamilton. It was the nation’s first analysis of the big news, and the boys went deep.
  • They went further into the future of Argos head coach Corey Chamblin. Toronto is 2-12, with four games to go. Rod said the only blackmark on Jim Popp’s time in Toronto was the inability to replace Ricky Ray. He feels Chamblin was put in an unwinnable situation in 2019. Getzlaf chimed in with an endorsement for Chamblin’s coaching abilities, as the pair won a Grey Cup together in 2013.
  • The guys also weighed in on the CFL Trade Deadline which hits on Wednesday afternoon. They discussed rumours of a trade involving the Bombers and Argos for a QB, and what other teams may do in advance of the deadline. Rod predicted that Edmonton will acquire James Franklin from the Argos and went along with the notion that Zach Collaros may wind up in Winnipeg.
  • 2-time Grey Cup champion Marcus Crandell joined the show from his home in North Carolina for an update on his life, and reflection on his career. Rod mentioned to “Sizzle” that he’s a part of CFL lore in that Marcus proved you CAN win a Grey Cup without a marquee QB. Calgary did it with Crandell in 2001, and Marcus said he neither takes that as an insult nor a compliment. “It is what is,” Marcus shrugged. The panel debated what attributes a Grey Cup champion team needs, and examined the contending teams with four games to go in the 2019 regular season.
  • ESPN, Fox Sports and CTV Regina alum Julie Stewart-Binks joined the show from New York City where she now hosts two shows: Call It A Night and Drinks With Binks. JSB reflected on her career and some of the big names she’s had on her shows. One of those is Dan Patrick, and she said Rod and D.P. are a lot alike! She also said she needs to get back to Regina for a game in new Mosaic Stadium.
  • Dupes joined the show in Hour 2 and they discussed the WHL/NHL’s Watch List, and why the Regina Pats don’t have anyone on the list. The Pats are home to the Edmonton Oil Kings Tuesday on First Nations Night.
  • In honour of Show #90, the guys recognized sports figures who’ve worn #90 in their careers. The group included Joe Juneau, Jevon Kearse, Brent Hawkins, Demarcus Lawrence and Jadaveon Clowney.
  • The Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre daily poll question was: Did Jim Popp deserve to be fired? Over 80% of respondents said yes.
