TUESDAY SHOW RECAP
Tuesday’s show was Episode #51 of The Rod Pedersen Show. Here are the highlights!
- Rod and Darren Dupont were joined in the bunker by Riders/Stamps/Ticats alum Marshall Hamilton for The Warmup. They discussed the CFL’s newest hot rivalry: Edmonton/Ottawa, as well as the CFL’s new weather protocol, more on Rider QB Cody Fajardo, the saga between the Oakland Raiders and Antonio Brown and more.
- Rod’s Rant for Bronco Plumbing & Heating came early. Rod implored football fans in Calgary to get out and attend Saturday’s Alouettes/Stampeders game at McMahon Stadium. Rod said Calgary’s a great football town but they need to prove it by getting out and supporting the CFL’s Cadillac Franchise. People complain that it’s a Saturday which could muddle weekend plans but they also complain about Thursday games. Just get out to the park!
- Marshall Hamilton went deep on The Year Of The Return in the CFL, and explained why he believes kick return TDs are WAY UP in the CFL this season. He feels part of the reason is that the NFL is moving away from the importance of kickoff and punt returns, so return specialists are opting for Canada. Also, CFL rules allow for greater advantages for returners.
- The Voice of the Tiger-Cats – TSN Hamilton’s Marshall Ferguson – joined the show via video chat from Ticats practice at Tim Hortons Field. He discussed the Ticats’ wild 35-34 win over BC in Week 9, in what turned out to be the game of the week. He previewed Hamilton’s Week 10 game at Ottawa and a whole lot more!
- A real treat came in Hour 2. CBC legend Costa Maragos and blossoming CBC legend Peter Mills joined the show to discuss a wide range of topics. Costa made an impassioned pitch to have Roy Shivers inducted into the Riders’ Plaza of Honour, and Peter talked about his series of features with Rider players where they tell their life stories. Fascinating!
- In honour of show #51, the panel debated all-time sports figures who wore number-51. The group included the CFL’s Marcus Adams, David Black, Alondra Johnson, Barrin Simpson and Levi Steinhauer, the NFL’s Takeo Spikes and Dick Butkus, MLB’s Ichiro Suzuki, Randy Johnson, Bernie Williams and Willie McGhee and the NHL’s Andrei Kovalenko.
- The 2019-2020 NBA schedule was announced on Monday and there are TWO games in Houston during the inaugural Rod Pedersen VIP Sports Trip from December 5-10. It led to the daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question: Who would you rather see on the trip – Rockets vs Phoenix Suns, Rockets vs Sacramento Kings or both? The leader is Rockets-Suns.
- RP mentioned that Monday’s Game 2 of the WMBL East Final in Swift Current was rained out so it’s been pushed back to Tuesday evening between the Red Sox and 57’s. Regina leads the Best-of-3 series 1-0 and should a Game 3 be needed, it’ll go Wednesday at Currie Field.
