TUESDAY SHOW RECAP: AMBROSIE, MILANOVICH JOIN!

Tuesday was another football buffet on The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:

  • CFL Commissioner Randy Ambrosie joined the show from CFL winter meetings in Collingwood, ON. He discussed the sale of the Alouettes to S & S Sportsco, the latest CBA is finalized and going to print (and has been published to the CFLPA website), discussed the change to the 3rd QB provision (teams will have the option to dress a 3rd QB but it’s not mandatory), and the latest on CFL 2.0. Ambrosie stated that the CFL is now the world’s largest international league.
  • 3DownNation CFL Insider Justin Dunk joined the show from CFL winter meetings media day and said the buzz is that Chris Jones stands a good chance of staying with the NFL’s Cleveland Browns. Dunk said Jones made a favourable impression in Year 1 despite rookie head coach Freddie Kitchens getting fired. Dunk also revealed that the Jones-led Riders tried to acquire Cody Fajardo in 2018 from the BC Lions via trade, when the team was experiencing short yardage difficulties.
  • Edmonton Eskimos new head coach Scott Milanovich joined the show from CFL winter meetings saying he took the Eskimo job because he missed the CFL. He also said the word amongst his football colleagues is that the Esks “aren’t far off” from being a championship contender. He feels the same about the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars, the team he’s leaving. He said it was a challenge coaching two teams at once, as he was with the Jaguars and Eskimos over the past month. Milanovich also offered a scouting report on the Tennessee Titans in the NFL Playoffs, a team he’s seen a lot the past few years.
  • TSN Montreal’s Joey Alfieri joined the show to recap the sale of the Alouettes and broke the news that he’s hearing CFL teams will let all players out of contracts for NFL opportunities as early as next 0ff-season.
  • In light of all this news, the daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: What’s the biggest issue at CFL winter meetings: Expansion, CFL 2.0, CFL/NFL Window, 3rd QB? At press time, the CFL/NFL Window and 3rd QB were neck-and-neck.
