TUESDAY SHOW RECAP: ANOTHER PLAYER TAKEOVER!

We covered the latest sports news and chatted with several football personalities on Tuesday’s Episode #227 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes covered these Quick Six show topics in The Rollout for Flooring Superstore: 1) TSN’s Dave Naylor predicts no CFL season for 2020, 2) CFL/CFLPA talks resume (about what??), 3) The Korean Baseball League began their season with games early Tuesday morning (our time), 4) Canada West Football tells its teams to prepare for a 5-game season (is it too early to do a preview?), 5) The Alouettes sign WR Vinny Papale, the son of Eagles QB Vince Papale, and 6) What’s happening in hockey? It’s been quiet other than the SJHL Simulation (the semifinals are 2-2 between Melfort/Flin Flon and Battlefords/Yorkton).
  • Rod advised viewers to prepare for Korean Baseball League players to become worldwide stars since they’re the only pro league currently playing. ESPN is carrying the games live. Rod did some investigating and told viewers to pick a favourite team among the 10 KBL franchises: Bears, Heroes, Wyverns, Twins, Dinos, Wiz, Tigers, Lions, Eagles and Giants. Rod picked the Wyverns, Dupont’s going with the Eagles, Producer Clark chose the Bears, Director Jordan’s going with the Wiz and RP Show Director of Scouting Craig Smith will cheer for the Twins.
  • Analyst Kelly Remple joined the show via video chat from his office and talked about running two businesses amid the pandemic, explained why the CFL should receive government aid, and talked about Aaron Rodgers being miffed the Packers drafted his replacement. Regarding the CFL/Federal aid story, Rod advised the other Canadian leagues are watching the situation very closely.
  • Riders long-snapper Jorgen Hus joined the show from his home in Saskatoon and said he’s staying in fantastic shape, running 5K daily. He discussed the Riders re-signing punter Jon Ryan and the pair’s long association. Jorgen also said it would be such a shame to have the season wiped out with the Riders being serious Grey Cup contenders. He also discussed his new mortgage business and encouraged viewers to check out his website www.jorgenhusmortgages.ca for their home-buying needs.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who’s more deserving of Federal funding – the CBC or the CFL? Over 80% of respondents voted for the CFL.
  • The player takeover continued in Hour 2 as 8-year CFL veteran receiver Shamawd Chambers joined the show from his Toronto home. He discussed how football players are built for uncertain times like they’re facing in the pandemic, reflected on his CFL career so far (he’s currently a free agent), winning a Grey Cup with Edmonton in 2015, and how Chris Jones convinced him to sign in Saskatchewan in 2016 (“You know we’re gonna win,” Jones told him at the time. “So you might as well sign here now”). Chambers also talked about being a contract holdout with Edmonton in 2012 and dealing with the Eskimos’ Eric Tillman and Ed Hervey at the time.
  • Toronto Argonauts #2 overall pick WR Dejon Brissett joined the show from Toronto and re-lived Draft night in the Brissett household. His brother Oshae plays for the Toronto Raptors and the guys discussed what a boon it will be for the Brissett family to have two boys playing in the MLSE organization. He talked about his phone conversation with Pinball Clemons upon being drafted, the outlook for the Argos and much more. Dejon was a very engaging personality!
  • Rod came unglued when viewer “Jeff Stamps” trolled Cody Fajardo for charging fees for public appearances. The back-and-forth went on for 20 minutes and Rod said players are under no obligation to give up their time freely. At the very least, Rod explained why players should be free to “pick and choose” where and when they decided to “give back”. Viewers chose sides and it turned into a very heated debate. RP said players are kicked aside with no fanfare when their careers are over so they should be able to capitalize on their celebrity when it’s at its peak.
  • You can vote now on our Twitter poll for Tuesday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions. At press time, the Rod/Jeff Stamps Feud was leading. Monday’s vote was won by TSN’s Dave Naylor.
