TUESDAY SHOW RECAP: CHRIS BEST JOINS THE BUNKER!

Tuesday was Episode #80 of The Rod Pedersen Show. Here are the highlights!

  • Rod and Dupes got the show rolling with The Warmup segment. They discussed the 1-game suspension to Alouettes QB Vernon Adams, are 3 bye weeks too many in a CFL season?, Monday’s NHL preseason results, and Monday’s Athletes In Action event featuring the Riders’ Cody Fajardo and Craig Dickenson, which both Rod and Darren attended.
  • Global Regina’s Taylor Shire joined the bunker in the next segment and they discussed a wide variety of CFL topics. Regarding the CFL’s admission that Vernon Adams should’ve been tossed from Saturday’s game versus Winnipeg, Rod asked Taylor if he could defend CFL officiating and the Command Centre since he’s a member of the officiating brethren (a certified SHA official). Taylor admitted that he could not.
  • TSN NHL Insider Darren Dreger joined the show via video chat from Connecticut where he’s attending NHL meetings. He said that he doesn’t expect Connor McDavid would ever ask for a trade out of Edmonton saying the Oilers captain is “committed” to turning things around. Dregs also said that there’s a good chance Patrik Laine could miss the Heritage Classic in Regina as his contract holdout with the Winnipeg Jets drags on.
  • Rider great Chris Best dropped by the bunker in Hour 2 to promote the Rider Alumni Gala on October 18. You can purchase tickets at the Rider office or RiderAlumni.com. News came down during the show that Vernon Adams was named a CFL Player of the Week and the crew debated whether it looks bad that V.A. would get such an honour despite incurring a suspension in the same game. Rod and Besty agreed that it does not. They talked Cody Fajardo/Rider contract extension talks and the outlook for Saskatchewan over their final six games.
  • Saskatchewan Rush Business Development executive Brandon Urban joined the show from NLL meetings in Vancouver, and the World Box Lacrosse Championships in which several Rush players are repping Team Canada. Brandon recapped last week’s NLL Draft, broke the news that the Rush have signed draftee Colin Berglof (a Saskatchewan product) and announced that all 2019-2020 Rush season ticket holders will receive a 5th Anniversary season commemorative jersey. Brandon also offered a bold guarantee that the Rush will win the 2020 NLL title!
  • In honour of show #80, the guys recognized sports figures who’ve worn #80 and the group includes Don Narcisse, Cris Carter, Jerry Rice, Nik Antropov, Geoff Sanderson and Kevin Weekes.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which team finishes hire this NHL season – Canucks, Jets, Flames or Oilers? Respondents voted in favour of Calgary.
