ARMDOG

Tuesday’s RP Show all added up to an entertaining variety show for Episode 209! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstore discussing these Divine Nine show topics: 1) Now we’re getting somewhere! Things are starting to move in pro sports, 2) MLB is considering moving all 30 teams to Phoenix and playing out of minor league and major league ball parks, 3) Will the NHL play in Bubble Cities and go straight to playoffs? If so, what format?, 4) Can we sneak the Memorial Cup in somewhere?, 5) UFC President Dana White says they’ve secured a private island for events this spring and summer, 6) The CFL remains hopeful they’ll play 18 games but won’t start before July 1, 7) Justin Dunk’s report that all CFL players will become free agents if there’s no season, 8) Who’s your favourite pro wrestler?, and 9) Will you be hesitant to re-enter arenas and stadiums once the pandemic lifts?
  • RP Show hockey analyst Jared Dumba (10-year pro, Blades/Hounds alum) joined the show to discuss all the above topics, plus what the addition of Exceptional Player Connor Bedard will mean to the Regina Pats franchise. They discussed scenarios for the return of the NHL, and also the re-entry-into-stadiums debate. Jared and Rod agreed that if people knew the threats around them on a daily basis, they’d never leave their bedrooms. Once the disease officials give the green light to go back, there’s nothing to be gained by living in fear.
  • Noted stand-up comic Kelly Taylor joined the show from Prince Albert. He discussed losing all his gigs from now till August due to the pandemic, and the strain it’s put on his family of six. Kelly – who also does morning radio – reminisced with Rod over past gigs they’ve done together, and he also promoted his new podcast Tic & Tets.
  • Sportsnet analyst and Memorial Cup champion Colby Armstrong joined the show from Pittsburgh to discuss how his young family is coping with the crisis. He admitted to being very upset that the Mem Cup was cancelled, because he was extremely stoked to go to Kelowna for Sportsnet’s coverage. Regarding the resumption of the NHL season, he said players are positive and staying in shape but he knows absolutely nothing about how this will all play out.
  • TSN Edmonton’s Dustin Nielson joined the show to talk about all kinds of things. He said Oiler fans are very upset that the season is in jeopardy, given the fact they were having such a good year. Dusty said they’re not ready yet to look at the fact the Oilers are on the right track with Ken Holland and Dave Tippett. He also said 6,000 viewers tuned in to watch him call a virtual Oilers/Flames game online. Regarding the CFL, Dustin said he’s not yet sold on the Eskimos as West Division frontrunners, however they could be if Trevor Harris stays healthy.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Do you enjoy classic games on Sportsnet & TSN? Over 60% said yes, they do.
  • Chris Getzlaf was voted Monday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chains Solutions. Leading the voting by viewers on Twitter on Tuesday at press time was Kelly Taylor.
