After a 4-day hiatus over Easter, we were back with Episode 212 of The Rod Pedersen Show on Tuesday! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes got things going with The Rollout for Flooring Superstore covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) A recap of the boys’ extended weekends, 2) The demise of the XFL, 3) We still don’t know when the pandemic will end, 4) The immediate future of the CFL, 5) Fans have all kinds of ideas about that but Rod feels “mental gymnastics” like this are a waste of time. The suits will make the final decision, and it’ll be the appropriate one, and 6) No NHL to Saskatoon.
  • The Sports Doctor Dave Petrishen joined the show from Winnipeg and talked about life in the Manitoba capital during the pandemic. He said Bomber fans are just like Rider fans, wondering how and when the CFL will come back. The Doc discussed Chris Streveler chugging beers on his Instagram Live feed, and feels the WWE was deemed an essential service over the UFC because it’s “scripted”, not actual combat.
  • TSN NHL Insider Darren Dreger joined from his home in Toronto for an NHL update. He feels the NHL’s been quiet lately because the neutral site talk got fans’ hopes up far too high. He said the NHL powerbrokers are at work behind-the-scenes and will have a plan ready once they get the green light from health officials. “Dregs” talked about the Saskatchewan Quarantine House game on social media, how his family doesn’t know what to do with the dead bat on their patio, and expressed how proud of his home province of Saskatchewan he is with the tribute to Colby Cave in the Battlefords. He said Colby embodies what a Western Canadian hockey player is all about.
  • NLL Commissioner Nick Sakiewicz joined the show from his home in Philadelphia. He took us through the past month for the NLL, and said a playoff tournament has been discussed to award a champion. Rod tried to goad the Commish into announcing the NLL’s 14th team, but he laughed and didn’t take the bait. Nick said an announcement is imminent, and the league feels it’s important to stay on schedule as much as they can. He discussed the phenomenon that is the Saskatchewan Rush, and explained the NLL’s explosion in popularity over the past few years. He feels Canada could support “7 or 8” NLL franchises. (There are currently five).
  • Swift Current Broncos Manager of Digital Media Ryan Switzer joined the show from the Frontier City to talk about the life of Colby Cave, and what he meant to that franchise. Switz said the town is still reeling from Colby’s tragic death, and no plans have been made yet to order “Caver’s” life however he feels some sort of tribute is definitely necessary.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Will the XFL return? Around 70% of respondents said no.
