TUESDAY SHOW RECAP: GRIM REAPER AND MAY DAY!

Tuesday was Episode 128 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:

• Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstores. The guys discussed the hottest news of the day and that’s the Swift Current Broncos firing trainer Jamie Leblanc. Rod explained he’s been friends with “Butter” for almost 20 years and since Jamie’s aways had Rod’s back, the feeling is mutual. Rod said his stance isn’t “Anti-Bronco”, but that Jamie isn’t the villain some media outlets have tried to portray him to be. They also discussed the PR nightmare hockey is facing and if it’ll spill into football and other sports. Rod said a former Rider said to him Tuesday morning, “If every football coach who hurt my feelings ended up being fired, there’d be no coaches left!”
• Washington Capitals analyst and Estevan Bruins alum Alan May (pictured) joined the show from DC via video chat to discuss a variety of things including hockey culture. May repeated the theme that there’s some bad people in hockey, just like all segments of society. Alan previewed a potential Boston-Washington Eastern Conference Final, and said the Edmonton Oilers (his hometown team), should be considered a legit Stanley Cup favourite.
• The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Are the Oilers a Stanley Cup contender? The majority of respondents said no.
• RP Show Director of Scouting Craig Smith joined the bunker to discuss the latest CFL news. Smitty said he has no problem with the rumour that Rick Campbell perhaps knew he’d be heading to the BC Lions when he resigned in Ottawa prior to Grey Cup. While there could be tampering involved, the panel agreed that they are all pro-player and pro-coach. They also discussed the Riders’ list of free agents and who the priorities should be.
• Nashville NHL broadcaster and author Stu Grimson joined the show from Music City and said the revelations about coach abuse could be a good thing if it cleans up a dirty secret in the game. Grimmer also dropped bombs on Don Cherry regarding their spat (https://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/nhl/cherry-s-apology-accepted-by-ex-enforcers-1.1037602) almost a decade ago. Grimson said Cherry is “reckless” and never offered a worthwhile apology at the time. The Grim Reaper also gave his thoughts on the 12-10-4 Predators and how they’re better than he thought they’d be after trading P.K. Subban away.
• In honour show of #128 the guys recognized sports figures who’ve worn #28 in their career and the group includes Kenton Keith, Marshall Faulk, Buster Posey, Loucheiz Purifoy, Robyn Regehr, Craig Butler, Tie Domi and Craig Muni.
• Postmedia digital media guru Austin Davis (son of Darrell Davis and grandson of Lorne Davis) joined the bunker to offer his take on hockey’s “#MeToo” movement saying it shouldn’t be labelled as such, because that demeans the Hollywood and entertainment movement. He also gave his thoughts on Rider free agency, offensive playcalling in the CFL West Final and the current state of sports media in the digital age.
• Dupes returned for the Overtime segment where he and Rod gave their take on World Junior tryout snubs and if the Chicago Blackhawks will loan Kirby Dach to Team Canada (it appears they won’t).
