TUESDAY SHOW RECAP: JEFF FAIRHOLM JOINS!

Tuesday was Episode #104 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstore and told viewers and listeners that this would be a CFL show, following up Monday’s recap of the Heritage Classic. That seemed to please most everyone! The guys debated which question to go with for the Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre daily poll question: Which QB should the Bombers start at QB in the playoffs? or Should Andrew Harris still be up for Bombers M.O.P. given his steroid violation? They opted for the QB question, but both themes ran throughout the entire show. (Around 90% of respondents said Winnipeg should go with Zach Collaros).
  • Hall of Fame Rider receiver Jeff Fairholm joined the show via video chat from his office in Calgary and predicted a Saskatchewan-Hamilton Grey Cup at McMahon Stadium on November 24. He said he really likes what the Riders have going, and the Ticats appear to be unstoppable in the East. “Fairway” also offered a solid endorsement for the 2019 Grey Cup in Calgary, saying there’s lots of buzz already and “Calgary is a great CFL city”.
  • Riders/Stamps/Ticats alum Marshall Hamilton joined the bunker in Hour 1 for an assessment of all things CFL. While he’s been a Bombers supporter the past few seasons, he feels Mike O’Shea has made several questionable coaching decisions and that should take him out of the running for Coach of the Year.
  • News broke during the show that the Eskimos will sit QB Trevor Harris for Game 18 at Saskatchewan on Saturday. The guys debated the ramifications of that decision by Esks head coach Jason Maas, and how it will affect the Riders’ preparations for the game. Saskatchewan faces a scenario where if they win, they’ll clinch 1st place in the West Division and a bye in Round 1 of the playoffs.
  • RP Show Director of Scouting Craig Smith joined the bunker in Hour 2 and talked about his hometown Winnipeg Jets, the Heritage Classic, told some CFL stories including some great ones about former BC Lions coach Greg Mohns, and much more. They also discussed the 6-straight PFC titles won by the Saskatoon Hilltops and the panel agreed that it doesn’t cast the league in a dim light but rather proves the excellence of Saskatoon football and amateur football across Saskatchewan in general.
  • Edmonton Eskimos broadcaster Dave Campbell joined the show via video chat and talked about why the Esks are resting some of their top guns for Saturday’s game. He also talked about the tenuous situation Jason Maas is facing. Campbell asserted that the Esks are a good team, but haven’t been able to beat above-.500 teams this season.
  • Ottawa RedBlacks broadcaster A.J. Jakubec joined the show via video chat and discussed their 3-14 season, and Friday’s home game against Montreal. As far as how this season went, A.J. feels there’s plenty of blame to go around and that there will likely be plenty of changes this off-season both on the field and off.
  • In honour of show #104 the guys debated sports figures who’ve worn number-4 in their career and the group includes Bobby Orr, Darian Durant, Kerry Joseph, Dak Prescott, Taylor Hall, Brett Favre, Cameron Judge and Kevin Lowe.
