Tuesday was Episode 113 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod was back from a week in Texas and was joined by Dupes in the bunker for The Rollout for Flooring Superstore. Rod outlined the plan for the day, and the week, saying that there will be a lot of CFL talk however they must open with the hottest sports topic of the day: Don Cherry’s firing by Hockey Night In Canada. Rod stated that he’s long been a Grapes fan but the second he learned of Cherry’s poppy comments on Saturday’s broadcast, he knew Don was done. Rod’s Rant for Bronco Plumbing & Heating covered how the sports and entertainment industries have changed over the past 10-20 years with business people taking over from sports people and broadcasters running the companies. The rant is available on our Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts.
  • Riders/Stamps/Ticats alum Marshall Hamilton joined the bunker for the rest of the show and they talked about Sunday’s upsets in the CFL Division Semifinals with Winnipeg beating Calgary and Edmonton downing Montreal. Marshall got deep into the X’s and O’s of how the Bombers and Ticats won, but figured they both will be in for a stiffer test in this Sunday’s Division Finals.
  • With the Stampeders losing out, Rod asked how that’ll affect the 2019 Grey Cup on November 24 in Calgary. Will this kill the buzz or is it a good thing to have new teams in the Grey Cup? That led to the Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre daily poll question asking the same thing. Over 90% of respondents said it’s good for the CFL that the Stamps are out.
  • The guys then got into the Bombers/Riders match-up at Mosaic Stadium this Sunday and the storyline of Zach Collaros’s return to Riderville. Marshall feels it’ll be a story, but it’s far from the main one.
  • The Sports Doctor Dave Petrishen from Winnipeg hacked into the show via video chat and said Sunday’s game will merely be a stop-over for the Bombers on their way to the Grey Cup!
  • Former Riders/Argos/RedBlacks/Buccaneers LB Jeff Knox Jr. joined the show from Pittsburgh to talk about the crazy events over the past 12 months in his life, including hitting a lynx with his car near the Canada/US border! Knox – who was the Riders’ MVP, Defensive MVP and Rookie of the Year in 2015 – talked about his crazy football road but at age 27, he said he’s far from done.
  • Former NHL’er Bryan Berard joined the show from Rhode Island to talk about his new book Relentless. Berard lost an eye during an NHL game but persevered and played another five seasons afterwards. The book is available now in all bookstores.
  • Football Canada President Jim Mullin joined the show from Vancouver to talk about the upcoming Mitchell Bowl, Uteck Bowl and Vanier Cup as well as this weekend’s Canadian Bowl in Langley, BC featuring the Rams and Hilltops. Jim rated the state of football in Canada as a 7-out-of-10 saying it’s come a long way, but it’s still got a long ways to go.
  • In honour of show #113 the guys recognized players who’ve worn #13 during their career and the list included Anthony Calvillo, Teemu Selanne, Mats Sundin and Ken Linseman.
  • Tuesday’s show is available for viewing now on our Facebook page or you can listen to the podcast by clicking on the PODCAST tab at the top of this page.
  • See you at 10 am CT Wednesday on Facebook Live and RodPedersen.com/ListenLive!

Here’s hoping Ed the Sock a good ole Canadian dog is the replacement on Coaches Corner. He can say whatever the hell he wants as he’s an inanimate object that can’t be legally fied for speaking his inanimate bombastic mind, it’s true.

Had to hunt for it back in early November and missed it. Understandably so. Two lines, 41 words about the Canadian Premier League soccer final. And there’s people beating the drum for Saskatchewan to get a franchise when the league expands to 10 teams in 2021. Nuh-uhh. I doubt it. Then again, I was highly skeptical about the league when it kicked off. Hearing my niece talk about the fun she’s had attending Halifax Wanderers games and personally being part of a paying 10,400+ crowd in Hamilton for the first game of the two-game final erased all doubts about the… Read more »
