TUESDAY SHOW RECAP: SPORTS TALK AND LOTSA LAUGHS!

GENEPRINCIPE

We covered the ice, hardwood, gridiron and mascots on Tuesday’s Episode #240 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Buckle up for the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes got it going with The Rollout for Flooring Superstore covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) A CFL front office type called Rod Monday night and was “very optimistic” about a season in 2020, 2) ESPN’s NFL Power Index is out and the top teams’ Super Bowl win percentages are: KC (21%), Baltimore (17%), New Orleans (13%), San Francisco (12%) and Dallas (5%), 3) CFL Grey Cup odds in 2020 are: Hamilton, Saskatchewan, Calgary, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Montreal, BC, Ottawa and Toronto, 4) Is bulletin board material overrated?, 5) The NFL says it plans to kickoff in September on schedule with full stadiums, 6) Is it fair for some university sports to play in 2020, but not others?
  • The guys had fun with the NFL Power Index and said the teams with 0% chance of winning the Super Bowl (according to ESPN) are Jacksonville, Washington, Carolina and Cincinnati. Regarding the CFL playing in 2020, things really do look positive and the guys surmised that there’s plenty going on behind-the-scenes that the public is not aware of.
  • Sportsnet Oilers broadcaster Gene Principe joined the show from his Edmonton home to discuss social distancing in supermarkets, his Quarantine flow, and the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Gene admitted that, yes, the Oilers are Stanley Cup contenders with the duo of McDavid/Draisaitl, above average goaltending and great coaching.
  • A real treat was a video chat interview with 2-time NBA champion Joel Anthony. The Montreal product and long-time Miami Heat forward discussed joining the front office of the CEBL’s Hamilton Honey Badgers (he wants to give back). Joel talked about his road from Montreal to being an NBA champion, compared the leadership abilities of Lebron James to Michael Jordan, and answered plenty of questions from viewers.
  • TSN Ottawa’s Shawn Simpson joined the show to talk about the potential return of the NHL this summer. He reported that Senators fans have turned their attention to the future since their team is out of the running. He and Rod had an engaging back-and-forth about the pros and cons of playing without fans, and Simmer said he supports Federal aid to the CFL and its American players. He explained that he spent 20 years in the U.S. working in hockey, and would’ve expected benefits from the American government if the situation was reversed.
  • Super fan Cameron Hughes joined the show from his home in Venice Beach, CA. Any sports fan in North America would know Cameron as he’s brought in by teams to whip up fans. He’s made many appearances in Saskatchewan with the Rush and WHL teams, and has worked 47 Vegas Golden Knights games. Hughes talked about how his journey began in 1994, and his hero was original super fan Crazy George.
  • Hughes’ appearance was so engaging that he was awarded the Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions by acclimation. Monday’s winner was CFL Commissioner Randy Ambrosie.
  • This discussion veered off into the possibility of a summer RP Show bracket of the best all-time mascot and/or super fan including the San Diego Chicken, Morganna “The Kissing Bandit”, The Flame, Gainer The Gopher, Youpi!, Gritty, Harvey The Hound, etc.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Is it fair for some university sports to play in 2020 but not others? At press time the vote was roughly 60/40 “yes”.
  • Tuesday’s show is available for viewing now on our Facebook page, you can listen to the podcast by clicking on the PODCAST tab, or you can listen anytime to our 24-hour live audio stream presented by SUDS Full Service Car Wash at RodPedersen.com/ListenLive.
  • See you at 10 am Wednesday on Facebook Live and RodPedersen.com/ListenLive. On the guest list is Pro Football Hall of Famer Warren Moon!

The CFL odds is just a regurgitation of the final standings, East & West, last year. Shocking. Top Mascot in any poll on your show will be Gainer by a landslide. Not shocking either, Rod. LOL
