It was a lotta hockey talk and some breaking news on Episode 189 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod, Dupes and The Silver Fox Kelly Remple opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstore covering these Elite Eight show topics: 1) Vegas beats Edmonton 3-2 in OT, 2) Winnipeg downs Arizona 4-2, 3) TSN’s Jets pregame show, 4) Coronavirus and its effect on sports, 5) NFLPA CBA votes are due on Thursday. Do we care?, 6) Tom Brady being courted by the Titans, Colts, 49ers, Chargers, Raiders, Raiders, Buccaneers and Patriots, 7) The NFL’s offseason buzz compared to the CFL’s, and 7) Touchdown Atlantic.
  • Golden Knights insider Gary Lawless had to reschedule his Hour 1 visit but the guys kept up with the NHL chat anyway, discussing Western Canadian teams’ playoff hopes and potential first round match-ups. They also discussed Leon Draisaitl staying on the ice for ALL of overtime against Vegas, and if it cost the Oilers. The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Will the Jets be a playoff team? The majority of respondents said yes.
  • Washington Capitals Ass’t GM Ross Mahoney joined the bunker for parts of Hour 1 and 2 and brought his Stanley Cup ring with him. He discussed his travels, past Capitals draft picks from the WHL and took a bevy of questions from viewers.
  • NHL Insider Rich Sutter joined the show from his home in Lethbridge, AB discussing his roles as a pro scout with the Blue Jackets and an analyst on Sportsnet Flames broadcasts. He said the Blue Jackets are in the playoff picture despite missing 13 regulars. He also said all of his air travel has been suspended by Columbus due to the Coronavirus. Richie also picked the Edmonton Oil Kings as Alberta’s best WHL team.
  • Rod broke the news during the show that former Rider LB Brian Peters (2012-2014) has signed with the XFL’s Houston Roughnecks. The guys discussed BP’s career in the CFL, will he ever return, and the option that the XFL has turned out to be for free agents. They also discussed the long-term viability of the league, and TSN’s coverage of its games.
