Toronto Blue Jays slugger Vladimir Guerrero won the MLB All-Star Home Run Derby. He beat Mariners star Julio Rodriguez and Tampa Bay’s Randy Arozarena to claim the title. He previously made the final in 2019.

Vladimir Guerrero Junior’s win at the MLB All-Star Derby means he and his father — Vladimir Guerrero Senior — are the first father-son duo to win the competition. Guerrero Senior won in 2007 while with the Los Angeles Angels.

Los Angeles Kings centre Pierre-Luc Dubois says he understands why he might not have the best reputation around the NHL after forcing two trades in six years. The third overall draft pick in the 2016 NHL draft was dealt to the Kings from the Jets last month. He says he’s in it for the long haul with the Kings.

The MLB All-Star Game is set to get underway Tuesday evening. For the first time since 2001, the game’s starting pitchers will be from the New York Yankees and the Arizona Diamondbacks. Yankees’ Gerrit Cole will pitch for the American League while Zac Gallen will do so for the National League.

College basketball coach Bob Huggins says he has checked into a rehabilitation facility after a drunken driving arrest. He also says he did not resign as the coach of West Virginia’s NCAA men’s basketball team. The university says it stands by its announcement and has no intention of reinstating the coach.

Disgraced sports doctor Larry Nassar is recovering in hospital after being stabbed multiple times at a federal prison in Florida. Nassar is serving decades in prison after admitting sexually assaulting athletes at Michigan State University and at Indianapolis-based USA Gymnastics, including Olympic medalists. Nassar is said to be in stable condition.
